Job summary

GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd. is seeking a Quarry Mining Engineer (Mining EIT) to join our client’s team in Exshaw, Alberta. You will contribute to the Quarry Expansion Project and daily plant operations, applying mine planning and field design skills to support a 2.4 mtpa fixed plant.

You will collaborate with contract miners, perform field surveys, and lead safety-focused mining activities. A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering and 1–2 years of related experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years managing engineering technical services and support in mining.
  • Valid Driver's Licence is required.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Agg Flow, Excel, Word and PowerPoint is required.
  • Knowledge of mining methods and planning techniques essential.
  • Experience in open pit quarry or mine is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safe and efficient extraction of limestone, shale, and sandstone with detailed mine plans and designs.
  • Interface with contract mining companies on quarry projects, drill and blast, haul road maintenance, and other priorities.
  • Perform survey activities to collect blasthole data and design field layouts for construction.
  • Inspect quarries and crushing systems for efficiency, maintenance items, and safety hazards.
  • Assist with selection of mining equipment to meet current and future needs.
  • Design haul roads, dewatering systems, blasts, dumps, and other quarry structures.
  • Supervise heavy-duty mechanics to guarantee equipment reliability.
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance on mobile equipment and manage parts inventory.

The Role

GrizzlyTrek is seeking one Quarry Mining Engineer (Mining EIT) to join our valued client's team in Exshaw, Alberta. Join us as a Mining EIT and help construct what's next. If you are ready to put your skills to work on projects that matter, we want to hear from you.
Working in a team environment, the Quarry Mining Engineer provides technical leadership and support to the quarry and plant team to implement the Quarry Expansion Project and to support day to day operation of a 2.4 mtpa fixed plant.

What You'll Do
  • Ensure the safe and efficient extraction of limestone, black shale, and sandstone for production of prehomo through accurate and detailed mine plans and designs
  • Interface with contract mining companies on quarry projects, drill and blast, haul road maintenance, and other priorities
  • Perform survey activities to collect blasthole location data, and design layouts in the field for construction
  • Perform field inspections of the quarries and the crushing system, looking for efficiencies, maintenance items, and safety hazards
  • Assist with selection of mobile and fixed mining equipment to meet the plant's current and future needs
  • Design haul roads, mine dewatering systems, blasts, dumps, and other quarry structures
  • Guarantee the functionality and reliability of the mining and light duty fleet of mobile equipment for plant operations through supervision of heavy-duty mechanics in the garage
  • Plan and execute preventative maintenance on mobile equipment: order and procure parts, oils, and other fluids; develop and maintain a critical spare parts list; react to unforeseen breakdowns with urgency; and manage contractor technicians as needed
  • Perform shift coverage for Quarry Supervision as needed to cover vacation, training, or leaves of absence
  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas, and promote a culture of safety by exhibiting these behaviors
What You Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years experience managing engineering technical services and support, in a direct or related mining field
  • Valid Driver's Licence
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Agg Flow, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of mining methods and appropriate planning techniques
  • General knowledge of geology
  • Ability to learn and use appropriate mine planning software
  • Problem solving and analytical skills
  • Familiarity with provincial and governmental regulations as well as material specifications
  • Previous experience in an open pit quarry or mine
  • Previous experience with fixed plant crushing operations
Safety and PPE Requirements
  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of site approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators.
  • Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
Work Environment
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including exposure to all weather conditions, extreme heat, and dust in certain areas of the plant.
