Job summary

The University of Waterloo seeks a Quantum Technologies and Cryogenic Technician to assist in RAC2 and the TQT program, supporting cryogenic measurement platforms and general test systems. You will train, maintain, and test equipment, coordinating with the Research Associate to develop tools for advancing quantum technology use cases.

Qualifications

  • Completion of MS degree in a field of science or engineering, or a bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience.
  • Minimum one year demonstrated experience in a research academic environment is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in measurement processes, development and maintenance.
  • Minimum one year experience with cryogenic measurement tools is preferred, or significant experience with relevant electrical and mechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Operates, maintains and troubleshoots problems with research equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory of general research materials and supplies.
  • Participates in conducting experiments or research work by performing specific assigned tasks, such as data collection.
  • Operates and maintains the helium liquefaction system, prepares cryogenic dewars for use and monitors cryogen levels across experiments.
  • Maintains and develops pumps, vacuum and chiller systems, mechanical, electrical, and optical systems.
  • Supports good health and safety practices in laboratory spaces.
  • Organizes and maintains documentation, operating procedures, experimental records and data; including electronic files and backups.
  • Assists in analyzing and interpreting experiment results or research data by performing tasks such as assembly, compilation and summary of statistical and other data.
  • Participates in the organization of users of TQT’s shared resources.
  • Participates in the development of research related documents, including SOPs.
  • Provide onboarding for policies and procedures, and operation of equipment.
  • Assists with special projects and other duties related to TQT
