Job summary

Ggangermann in Vancouver, BC is seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Contract Administrator to support commercial and contractual management on major construction and infrastructure projects. The role involves day-to-day contract administration, cost control and handling change orders throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

  • Degree or recognised qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Commercial Management or related discipline.
  • Approximately 5+ years' experience in Quantity Surveying, Contract Administration or commercial management within construction or infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, commercial management and change control.
  • Experience assessing progress payments, variations and contractor claims.
  • Good understanding of construction costs, quantities, rates and estimating principles.
  • Experience working on major infrastructure, civil, building, utilities or energy projects would be advantageous.
  • Experience with Canadian construction contracts and procurement practices is preferred; UK, Australian or other international experience considered.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Commercially aware with good attention to detail and the ability to work independently within a project team.

Responsibilities

  • Administer construction contracts and support the project team with day-to-day contractual and commercial matters.
  • Review and assess contractor progress claims, invoices and payment applications.
  • Manage variations, change orders and associated commercial assessments.
  • Prepare and review cost estimates, quantity take-offs and pricing of changes.
  • Maintain change, variation, payment and commercial registers.
  • Review contractor quotations and assess quantities, rates, labour, plant and material costs.
  • Support the preparation and assessment of claims, including additional cost and delay-related submissions.
  • Review contractual notices and correspondence and assist with preparation of responses.
  • Monitor project expenditure, commitments, forecasts and cost-to-complete.
  • Assist with procurement, tender evaluations and commercial recommendations.
  • Support contract negotiations and resolution of commercial issues.
  • Attend project and commercial meetings with contractors, consultants and client representatives.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure contractual requirements and timeframes are being followed.
  • Identify emerging commercial and contractual risks and raise these with the project team.
  • Support project close-out, final accounts and settlement of outstanding variations and claims.

Quantity Surveyor / Contract Administrator

Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Contract Administrator to support the commercial and contractual management of major construction and infrastructure projects in Vancouver, BC.

The role will work closely with the project delivery and commercial teams, providing day-to-day contract administration, cost management, change control and commercial support throughout the project lifecycle.

The successful candidate will have strong practical experience working with contractors, consultants and project stakeholders and will be comfortable managing commercial matters in a live project environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer construction contracts and support the project team with day-to-day contractual and commercial matters.

Experience & Qualifications

The Candidate

We are looking for someone who is commercially strong but also practical and comfortable working directly with project teams. The role requires someone who can understand the contract, work through the detail behind costs and changes, and help resolve issues before they develop into larger commercial disputes.

The successful candidate will be organised, confident dealing with contractors and stakeholders, and capable of taking ownership of commercial and contract administration matters across the project.
