Job summary

Broccolini Construction Inc. in Toronto is seeking a Quantity Estimator to join our growing team. The role involves preparing estimates and budgets, performing quantity take-offs from drawings, and preparing tender packages for subcontractor bids.

The successful candidate will read drawings/ specifications, use onscreen takeoff tools, and collaborate with project teams to evaluate options based on cost and quality. Travel to GTA sites may be required.

Qualifications

• Completed Civil or Construction Engineering Management diploma or equivalent, or 1–3 years of estimating experience.
• Proficient in MS Excel and related formulas.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specs.
• Capable of quantity takeoffs across CSI divisions.
• Strong organizational and planning skills; able to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Experience with onscreen takeoff software.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Willingness to travel to GTA sites as needed.

Responsibilities

This position reports to the Senior Project Estimator.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Work independently or as part of a team to prepare estimates and budgets.
• Perform preliminary and detailed quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications using assembly-based on-screen takeoff software.
• Prepare
  quantity take-offs
  for conceptual, design-build, construction management, or general tender projects.
• Review
  proposal specifications and drawings to determine
  the scope of work.
• Prepare tender packages for subcontractor bidding.
• Liaise with subcontractors for bid requests, questions, and follow-ups.
• Review sub-contractors’ tenders and prepare preliminary analyses for review.
• Evaluate design options and recommend the best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or material available.
• Assist project management teams with subcontractor awards, quantity analysis, and change orders.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Successful completion of a Civil or Construction Engineering Management diploma or equivalent; or a minimum of 1-3 years of related construction estimating experience, preferably with general contractors.
• Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Excel and Excel formulas.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
• Capable of accurately preparing a variety of quantity takeoffs across all CSI (Construction Specifications Institute) divisions of work.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work under tight deadlines.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Experience with onscreen takeoff software.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Possess reliable transportation for travel to the Toronto Head Office or job sites located throughout the GTA, as needed.
