Job summary

Harbinger Network Inc. is seeking a Quality Inspector for a hands-on shop environment in Ontario.

You will ensure quality from raw steel to finished product, working with Production, Engineering, Purchasing and Quality to protect customers and company reputation. Responsibilities include inspecting materials, running lab tests, writing reports, calibrating gauges, supporting failure analysis, and maintaining procedures.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of QA and detailed inspection in steel manufacturing.
• Diploma ideal but not required.
• Confident reading drawings and specs.
• Strong knowledge of steel and materials.
• Experience with gauges and calibration.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2008 fundamentals.
• Willingness to learn lab/testing equipment.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

If you take pride in knowing a product is right before it leaves the building, this role is for you. We're looking for a Quality Inspector to be the final word on quality, from the first piece of raw steel through to the finished product. You'll work in a hands-on shop environment alongside Production, Engineering, Purchasing and Quality, and your work will directly protect customers and organizational reputation.

What you'll do

• Inspect raw materials, purchased parts, in-process work and finished goods against Engineering and customer drawings and specifications
• Run lab testing equipment to confirm products meet requirements
• Write up inspection reports and NCR/CAR documentation, on computer or on paper
• Keep our measuring instruments and gauges calibrated and our calibration system up to date
• Support Engineering with failure analysis, testing and prototype development
• Check the quality of work from our small custom structural fabrication team
• Follow established receiving inspection procedures for manufactured and purchased components
• Build strong working relationships with external labs, calibration services and sub-suppliers
• Take on other duties as needed

What you bring

• 3+ years of quality assurance and detailed inspection experience in steel manufacturing
• A post-secondary diploma in Metallurgy or a related field is ideal, but not required
• Confidence reading engineering drawings, specifications and standards
• Solid knowledge of materials, especially steel
• Experience with measuring instruments and gauges, and a working understanding of calibration systems
• Working knowledge of heat treating, machining and assembly, and familiarity with special processes such as, painting and coatings
• An understanding of Quality Management System principles under ISO 9001:2008
• Mechanical aptitude and a willingness to learn lab testing and metallographic equipment for production, design and prototype testing
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• The self-motivation to work independently with minimal supervision

Your work environment and what's in it for you:

A standard shop-floor quality department that is climate controlled, with the usual safety considerations that come with it. Shifts rotate based on operational needs and may change:

• Day shift: 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
• Afternoon shift: 2:30 pm - 11:00 pm
• Split shift (on rotation): 10:30 am - 7:00 pm
• Compensation starting between 25 - 27/hr
