Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Quality Inspector to perform QA/QC activities on large-scale civil, electrical, and infrastructure projects across Canada. You will balance field inspections with rigorous documentation and reporting, ensuring compliance with IFC drawings and project specs.

The role requires a strong civil construction background, attention to detail, and experience with ITPs/PQPs, quality records, and turnover documentation. Travel across Canada and a 14/7 rotation may be involved.

Qualifications

Reporting to the Quality Manager, the Quality Inspector is responsible for executing quality assurance and quality control activities on electrical utility, infrastructure, renewable energy, data center, and industrial construction projects across Canada. The successful candidate will perform field inspections, monitor subcontractor quality performance, support implementation of the Quality Management System, and assist in the development and maintenance of project quality documentation. This position requires a strong civil construction background, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to balance field inspections with significant documentation and reporting responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Execute quality assurance and quality control activities on active construction sites.


• Follow and support implementation of the company Quality Manual, project-specific Quality Plans, and Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs).


• Review drawings, specifications, contracts, exhibits, client standards, and technical documentation to determine inspection requirements.


• Inspect civil, structural, and electrical installations for compliance with project requirements and applicable codes and standards.


• Monitor subcontractor quality activities and provide quality oversight throughout construction.


• Liaise with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and quality representatives regarding quality-related matters.


• Review full and partial assemblies/installations for completeness and conformance to IFC drawings and project specifications.


• Identify, document, communicate, and track deficiencies through to completion.


• Assist with management of non-conforming materials and damaged equipment.


• Maintain project quality records, check sheets, inspection reports, and turnover documentation.


• Support development and administration of Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Project Quality Plans (PQPs), and associated quality documentation.


• Assemble and manage progressive turnover packages.


• Maintain and manage project punch lists and closeout documentation.


• Prepare weekly and monthly quality reports for internal and client stakeholders.


• Support multiple construction work fronts and future projects throughout Canada as business needs require.

Must Haves

• 10+ years of construction experience within heavy industrial, infrastructure, utility, mining, energy, civil, or commercial construction environments.


• 5+ years of civil construction experience involving earthworks, grading, foundations, piling, concrete, structural steel, site servicing, or underground utilities.


• 5+ years of QA/QC, Quality Inspection, Quality Coordinator, or Construction Quality experience.


• 5+ years of subcontractor management or coordination experience on complex construction projects.


• Strong background reading and interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, contract documents, exhibits, IFC drawings, and client standards.


• Experience with Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), Project Quality Plans (PQPs), quality records, check sheets, and turnover documentation.


• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to engage clients, subcontractors, construction managers, project managers, and field personnel professionally.


• Available to work a 14 days on / 7 days off schedule at various locations across Canada.


• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.

Nice to Haves

• Experience monitoring civil, structural, and electrical installations.


• Concrete, piling, earthworks, grading, and foundation inspection experience.


• Previous experience as a Supervisor, Foreperson, Superintendent, or Construction Lead.


• Experience on utility, substation, renewable energy, infrastructure, mining, or data centre projects.


• Apprenticeship, Trade Certification, CET, EIT, P.Eng., or other relevant technical designation.


• ISO 9001 Internal Auditor or Lead Auditor certification.


• Experience across both commercial and heavy industrial construction projects.


• Power systems experience including Distribution, Substation, or Transmission projects.

Work Environment

• Rotational position operating on a 14 days on / 7 days off schedule at project sites across Canada.


• Current assignment supports a major infrastructure project in Cape Breton, NS.


• Combination of field inspections (70%) and office/documentation work (30%), including quality reporting, turnover packages, and document control.


• Work performed in active construction environments involving earthworks, foundations, concrete, piling, structural steel, underground utilities, electrical installations, and commissioning activities.


• Fly-in/Fly-out available from most major Canadian airports; accommodations, travel, company vehicle, and fuel card provided where applicable.


• Requires flexibility to support future projects and mobilizations across Canada based on business needs.

Pay And Benefits

The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $100000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
