Position Summary

The Quality Improvement Specialist uses expert knowledge and skills to provide consultative support and coaching/ mentorship to clinical programs and services as it relates to quality, process improvement and performance to meet the strategic goals of the organization, achieve operational efficiencies and achieve sustainable change. In performing the functions of this role, the incumbent takes into consideration external and internal drivers in determining actions to provide business services.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and interpret data utilizing evidence-informed decision making including performance metrics identification and analysis to inform quality improvement initiatives
  • Execution of data collection methodologies, coaching/mentorship, planning, evaluation, and leadership for quality improvement strategies
  • Implement quality and utilization improvements using relevant process improvement tools and techniques
  • Champion, market, manage and monitor corporate quality initiatives
  • Provide advice, support, and consultation to internal parties in response to quality related inquiries
  • Participate on relevant committees and working groups from a quality perspective as required
  • Advance quality in the organization through consultation and education on quality methodologies through knowledge of clinical best practices, legislative requirements and policies
  • Implement goals and action plans as outlined in our annual Quality Improvement Plan

Position Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Healthcare Management or a health related discipline
  • Master’s Degree in Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS), Health Sciences, Business Administration, or Health Administration preferred
  • 5 – 7 years of health care experience required, preferably in quality management
  • Certification in LEAN/ Six Sigma, a working knowledge of IHI Improvement Model, Project Management Program, and/or other relevant education/ experience preferred
  • Experience with data collection, measurement, and analysis/ evaluation techniques
  • Expertise in the facilitation and application of quality improvement tools, techniques and methodologies (e.g. IHI Model for Improvement, FMEA, human factors principles)
  • Advanced knowledge of quality improvement process application as it applies to the broader health care spectrum and provincial/national priorities and initiatives
  • Proven ability to research evidence-informed practices/legislation and provide support for implementation in quality
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills including demonstrated expertise in meeting and group facilitation
  • Exceptional change management, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated computer literacy and proficiency including all Microsoft applications and Quality Improvement tools
  • Team-focused approach including engagement, flexibility, and an excellent attendance record
  • Proven ability to coordinate multiple tasks and time demands
