Job summary

Linamar Corporation in Guelph, Ontario is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to design inspection procedures, develop quality control plans, and lead root-cause investigations with production and engineering teams.

You will prepare PPAP packages, monitor customer requirements, and drive continuous improvement across suppliers and internal processes. Strong GD&T, SPC, and automotive quality systems experience are essential.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (manufacturing/quality/industrial).
  • Minimum 6 years in automotive quality manufacturing.
  • Experience with APQP, PPAP, PCP, PFMEA, 8D, MSA, GD&T, Gauge R&R, Metrology.
  • Strong problem-solving and statistical analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to read blueprints and GD&T symbols.
  • Advanced SPC knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; capable of presentations.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement methods.
  • Proficient with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Willingness to learn new software.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage quality documents such as Process Control Plans, Work Instructions, Gauge Instructions.
  • Review product/process docs for accuracy and completeness.
  • Support new product launches with RFQs including gauge plans and quotes.
  • Monitor Customer Specific Requirements and portals for compliance.
  • Address and resolve customer concerns, including on-site presentations.
  • Submit PPAP packages and samples timely.
  • Lead team meetings to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage corrective action process for internal/customer/supplier issues.
  • Review and approve PPAP submissions from suppliers.
  • Collaborate on ongoing improvement initiatives.
  • Train production on new products, gauges, fixtures, instructions.
  • Support QA to ensure compliance with customer requirements and quality system.
  • Complete dimensional reports, capability studies, MSA.
  • Perform internal/external audits (LPA, QMS, Manufacturing Process Audits, Supplier).
  • Interact with all departments to resolve issues and improve processes.

Job description

The Senior Quality Engineer works with production and engineering teams to uphold quality standards by designing inspection procedures, developing quality control plans, and guiding problem-solving efforts. This role involves preparing and reviewing PPAP documentation, ensuring compliance, and managing customer and supplier relationships.

Responsibility
  • Develop and manage essential quality documents, such as Process Control Plans, Work Instructions, Gauge Instructions, etc.
  • Participate in the development and review of product and process documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Support new product launches by assisting with RFQs, including gauge plans and quotes.
  • Monitor Customer Specific Requirements and customer portals and update documentation as required to ensure compliance
  • Address and resolve customer concerns in a timely manner in their preferred format, which may include on-site presentations.
  • Complete and submit Customer Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) packages and samples in a timely manner.
  • Organize and lead team-based meetings to identify root cause and implement corrective actions for quality issues with customers or suppliers.
  • Manage corrective action process to ensure resolution of internal/customer/supplier issues and maintain the Customer/Supplier Concern Log.
  • Review and approve PPAP submissions from suppliers.
  • Collaborate with core team on ongoing improvement initiatives.
  • Train production employees on new products, including the use of gauges, fixtures, and in-depth instructions for final inspections, boundary samples, and procedures.
  • Support quality assurance team to ensure compliance with customer requirements, and quality system.
  • Complete dimensional reports, capability studies and measurement systems analysis.
  • Perform internal/external audits (LPA, Quality System, Manufacturing Process Audits, Supplier, etc.) as per requirements.
  • Interact and collaborate with all departments to resolve manufacturing issues, enhance processes, and address concerns.
Academic/Educational Requirements
  • Post Secondary bachelor’s degree in engineering in relevant field (Manufacturing, Quality, Industrial).
Required Skills/Experience
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in quality manufacturing in the automotive industry.
  • Knowledge and experience with APQP, PPAP, PCP, PFMEA,8D, MSA, GD&T, Gauge R&R, and Metrology.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to apply statistical analysis methods to identify and address quality issues.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprint drawings and GD&T symbols.
  • Advanced knowledge of applying Statistical Process Control (SPC) concepts.
  • Understanding of metallurgical principles.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to create and deliver presentations to management, customers, and suppliers.
  • Ability to prepare quality assurance reports outlining manufacturing issues, corrective actions, and preventative measures, customized for non-technical audiences such as clients and management.
  • Familiarity with continuous improvement methodologies and the ability to drive and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to learn new software applications.
