Job Description

Quality Engineer

The Quality Engineer position, under general supervision, is responsible for performing routine to moderately complex inspections, setting quality standards for both in-process and finished products and materials. The role primarily involves developing testing methods, sampling, training, evaluating production, and recommending improvements. Additionally, the engineer will work with quality inspection supervisors to train and oversee inspectors in their use of control forms, procedures, and correcting quality problems.

Performance Expectations

  • Communicate directly with customers to develop and supply components that meet or exceed requirements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for process-related issues.
  • Assist the Quality Manager in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the quality management system.
  • Engage in continual improvement activities such as 5S, Kaizen, and lean methods.
  • Coordinate with Engineering and Operations to ensure smooth transfer of new products to production according to approved data.
  • Support Quality Inspectors to ensure compliance with the quality management system.
  • Conduct audits, close audit findings, and create audit reports.
  • Determine failures and implement corrective and preventive actions in response to customer complaints.
  • Create and maintain quality documentation, including manuals and procedures.
  • Manage activities related to receiving and outgoing quality functions.
  • Improve QA receiving inspection processes and procedures continually.
  • Resolve supplier failures and oversee corrective and preventive actions.
  • Manage supplier performance and conduct audits.
  • Prepare quality assurance reports, describing manufacturing problems, corrective actions, and preventative measures.
  • Present findings and reports to management.
  • Assess candidate suitability for specific positions.
  • Lead project teams involving engineers, technologists, clients, and contractors during product or facility design, development, and construction.

Credentials

  • Post-secondary education in Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, or related discipline.
  • Minimum three years of experience in quality assurance functions.
  • Experience with APQP, Process Control Plans, PFMEA, Gauge Planning, and PPAP requirements.
  • Ability to interpret operating and quality assurance reports.
  • Familiarity with drawing interpretations and geometric dimensional tolerancing.
  • Knowledge of gauging methods, calibration, and gauge R&R.
  • Ability to take precise measurements with specialized equipment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and CAD applications.
  • Knowledge of ISO and TS16949 quality standards.
  • Experience using statistical analysis software and CAD/CAM tools.
