Job description

The Amir Group of Companies (Amir Quality Meats; Sierra Custom Foods; Amir Specialty Poultry) is one of Canada’s largest, and most trusted, independent processors and distributors of zabiha halal meats. Muslim-owned and proudly certified and endorsed by the Dr. Imam Hamid Slimi of the Syeda Khadija Centre and Manna Halal Monitoring and Certification Agency, we only produce high-quality halal food that we would bring home to our own families.

The Role:

We are looking for a detail-oriented QA & QC Inspector to provide in-line quality and food safety verification in the cut-up, deboning, and packaging area at our Amir Specialty Poultry (ASP) facility in Arthur, Ontario. Reporting to the FSQA Manager/Supervisor, you will conduct routine inspections and checks on cutting, trimming, portioning, weighing, and packaging operations to verify compliance with the plant’s HACCP plan, CFIA requirements, halal standards, and customer specifications. This role requires strong auditing skills to independently identify non-conformances and support corrective action on the cut-up floor.

Key Responsibilities
In-Line Quality & Food Safety Inspection
  • Conduct routine in-line inspections of cut-up, deboning, and packaging operations, verifying cut specifications, trim standards, portion sizes, and package appearance against approved standards.
  • Monitor and verify critical control points (CCPs) and prerequisite programs in the cut-up and packaging area, including metal detection, temperature control, and allergen segregation.
  • Verify product labelling accuracy, including product identity, lot coding, best-before dates, net weight declarations, and halal certification marks.
  • Identify, tag, and segregate non-conforming product, and notify the FSQA Supervisor/Manager and Operations of quality or food safety deviations.
  • Conduct scheduled internal audits and inspections of cut-up and packaging operations against CFIA requirements, the plant’s HACCP/PCP, and halal certification standards.
  • Complete and maintain accurate inspection, audit, and monitoring records, including CCP logs, pre-operational and operational inspection results, and non-conformance reports.
  • Support root cause investigations for quality or food safety non-conformances in the cut-up area and verify that corrective actions are implemented and effective.
  • Assist in preparing documentation and records for external audits (customer, certification body, or CFIA) related to cut up and packaging operations.
CFIA Compliance & Regulatory Support
  • Support compliance with the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), the plant’s HACCP plan, and CFIA labelling and net weight requirements in the cut-up and packaging area.
  • Assist CFIA inspectors with information and documentation related to cut-up and packaging inspection activities as required.
  • Escalate observed non-compliances promptly to the FSQA Supervisor/Manager for follow-up and resolution.
Halal Integrity
  • Verify halal segregation and traceability are being maintained throughout cutting, weighing, and packaging.
  • Report any concerns regarding halal integrity or cross-contamination risk immediately to FSQA leadership.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Cut-Up, Weighing & Packaging Supervisor and line staff to communicate findings and support timely resolution of quality issues without unnecessarily disrupting production.
  • Collaborate with the broader FSQA team on HACCP monitoring, verification, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support and liaise with other Amir Group divisions as required on an occasional basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of experience in a quality assurance, food safety, or inspection role within a federally registered (CFIA) meat, poultry, or food processing facility.
  • Auditing experience is required — demonstrated ability to conduct and document inspections/audits and identify and report non-conformances.
  • HACCP certification is preferred, though not mandatory; candidates working toward certification are encouraged to apply.
  • Working knowledge of CFIA labelling, net weight, and packaging requirements under the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR).
  • Familiarity with HACCP principles, GMPs, and food safety prerequisite programs as they apply to cutting and packaging operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately complete inspection and audit documentation in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to clearly report findings to supervisors and collaborate with production staff.
  • Comfortable working in a cold, wet, physically active plant environment.
  • Availability to work early morning, evening, or weekend shifts as required by production schedules.
What We Offer
  • Competitive base salary with performance-based incentives.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including extended health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
