Job description

The Amir Group of Companies (Amir Quality Meats; Sierra Custom Foods; Amir Specialty Poultry) is one of Canada’s largest, and most trusted, independent processors and distributors of zabiha halal meats. Muslim-owned and proudly certified and endorsed by the Dr. Imam Hamid Slimi of the Syeda Khadija Centre and Manna Halal Monitoring and Certification Agency, we only produce high-quality halal food that we would bring home to our own families.

The Role:

We are looking for an experienced and hands-on Harvesting Line Supervisor to lead the kill floor and evisceration operations at our Amir Specialty Poultry (ASP) facility in Arthur, Ontario. Reporting to the Plant Manager, you will be responsible for supervising zabiha halal slaughter, scalding, defeathering, and evisceration operations, ensuring the line runs efficiently while meeting CFIA regulatory requirements, food safety standards, and Islamic slaughter (zabiha) practices. This is a critical, front-line leadership role requiring strong knowledge of live bird handling, humane handling requirements, and MPIP procedures.

Key Responsibilities
Kill Floor & Evisceration Line
  • Supervise and coordinate daily kill floor and evisceration line operations, including live receiving, hanging, stunning (where applicable), zabiha halal slaughter, scalding, defeathering, and evisceration, to meet daily production targets.
  • Ensure zabiha halal slaughter is performed in accordance with company halal certification requirements, including proper intent, method, and supervision by authorized halal slaughtermen.
  • Assign, schedule, and oversee kill floor and evisceration staff, ensuring adequate line coverage and appropriate rotation to manage repetitive strain risk.
CFIA (MPIP) Compliance & Food Safety
  • Ensure all kill floor and evisceration activities comply with the Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR), the plant’s HACCP plan, and CFIA humane handling and slaughter requirements.
  • Work closely with CFIA inspectors and veterinarians on the line regarding ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection, condemned/inedible product disposition, and carcass and viscera identification.
  • Monitor and enforce critical control points (CCPs) and pre-requisite programs on the kill floor, including evisceration technique, fecal/ingesta contamination control, and carcass washing, escalating deviations immediately.
Animal Welfare & Humane Handling
  • Oversee live bird handling, unloading, and hanging practices to ensure compliance with CFIA humane handling regulations and the company’s animal welfare standards.
  • Monitor stunning (where applicable) and slaughter methods to minimize animal stress and ensure consistent, humane, and halal-compliant outcomes.
  • Identify and report any animal welfare concerns or non-conformances and take immediate corrective action.
  • Train, coach, and develop kill floor and evisceration employees on proper technique, food safety practices, halal requirements, and safe equipment operation.
  • Enforce GMPs, PPE requirements, and sanitation standards on the kill floor, and support pre-operational and operational inspections.
  • Address employee performance, attendance, and conduct issues on the line, in collaboration with Human Resources.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Work closely with the FSQA team to support HACCP monitoring, corrective actions, and CFIA inspection activities on the kill floor.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance to minimize equipment downtime and address mechanical issues affecting line speed or food safety.
  • Support and liaise with other Amir Group divisions as required on an occasional basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • 5-7 years of supervisory experience in a poultry or meat slaughter/kill floor environment, ideally within a federally registered (CFIA) facility.
  • Strong working knowledge of CFIA (MPIP) slaughter, humane handling, and post-mortem inspection requirements under the MPIP regulations.
  • Familiarity with zabiha halal slaughter requirements is preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a production team in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
  • Working knowledge of HACCP principles, GMPs, and food safety prerequisite programs as they apply to slaughter and evisceration.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with CFIA inspectors, veterinarians, and cross-functional plant teams.
  • Comfortable working in a cold, wet, physically demanding plant environment, including exposure to live birds, blood, and offal.
  • Availability to work early morning, evening, or weekend shifts as required by production schedules.
