Job summary

gategroup Canada Inc. is seeking a QA Manager to assure compliance with Quality/Food Safety SOPs and regulatory requirements for the Vancouver operation. You will manage a QA and sanitation team of about 12 people and participate in local and corporate process improvements.

The role includes leading QA activities, implementing quality systems, maintaining corrective actions, and driving a culture of food safety and quality across the unit.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Executes monthly self–assessments on the elements of food safety.

  • Leads all QA and food/product safety related activities/initiatives.
  • Implements quality systems and measures their effectiveness by verifying activities, controls and preventative measures.
  • Manages corrective action system and facilitates corrective actions with leadership.
  • Ensures HACCP records are accurate and compliant.
  • Leads product defect investigations and foreign object investigations.
  • Identifies and maintains KPIs related to food safety and quality.
  • Manages sanitation team to meet business needs and maintain unit hygiene.
  • Improves procedures to ensure end-to-end process conformance.
  • Promotes food safety and quality culture in the Vancouver Unit.
  • Identifies and develops top talent; manages vendors.
  • Controls QA department expenses and labor costs to meet budget targets.

We’re looking for motivated, engaged people to help make everyone’s journeys better.

Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will be responsible for assuring compliance with all Quality/Food Safety SOP’s, customer and regulatory requirements as they relate to the Vancouver Operation. You will manage the QA and Sanitation team of approximately 12 people.

You will be expected to give feedback at both the local and corporate level on current and proposed processes along with recommendations. You will be a key member of the Vancouver Leadership Team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Executes monthly self–assessments on the elements of food safety.
  • Executes and maintains the required food safety related procedures as defined in HACCP plan
  • Leads all QA and food/product safety related activities/initiatives.
  • Implements quality systems and measures their effectiveness by verifying activities, controls and preventative measures.
  • Responsible for maintaining and managing the corrective action system and facilitating corrective action activities with the leadership team.
  • Assures the accuracy and compliance of HACCP records as defined in the corporate procedures.
  • Responsible to lead product defect investigations, Alleged food poisoning, foreign object investigations etc.
  • Responsible for the identifying and maintaining of key performance metrics as related to food safety and quality
  • Manage sanitation team to meet business needs and to ensure unit hygiene supports compliance with all food safety standards
  • Continuously improves unit procedures for monitoring and ensuring conformance to specifications for our end to end process
  • Actively leads the food safety team to promote food safety & quality culture in the Vancouver Unit
  • Identify and develop top talent
  • Manage outside suppliers and vendors
  • Manage all expense and labour costs associated with the QA Department to meet budget targets
Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in food science or related field
  • Foundational knowledge in HACCP
Work Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years quality assurance experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • Auditing experience
  • Proven ability to work with a team in a fast‑paced environment
  • Proven experience in development and implementation of quality and safety processes
Job Skills: Minimum skill requirements
  • Intermediate level Microsoft office tool skills (excel, word)
  • Knowledge of quality auditing, inspection methods
  • Detail oriented
  • Strong organizational skills, able to prioritize responsibilities and multi-task
  • Strong interpersonal skills, interact well with and ability to influence all levels of the organization
  • Able to work with little supervision
  • Excellent reading, writing, and oral communication skills in English
  • You are a change agent and influencer
Language / Communication Skills:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Multi‑lingual a plus
Job Dimensions

Type of Employment: Full time

Work Environment / Requirements of the Job: Regularly stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during shifts. Must be to lift, pull, push, and move products, equipment, and supplies daily. Exposure to cooler and freezer temperatures in production areas.
