Job summary

WF Steel & Crane is seeking a QC Welding Inspector to join our shop-based team in Nisku, Alberta, with day and night shifts. The role emphasizes inspection of welded joints, adherence to specs, and collaboration with production to uphold safety and quality standards.

Ideal candidates have CWB W59 Level-1 certification, 5+ years in steel fabrication and 1 year in inspection, plus strong communication skills and fluency in English.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years experience in steel fabrication with 1 year in inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret welding blueprints and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, materials and NDT methods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving ability.
  • Fluent English with strong communication skills.
  • Welding/Fitting certificate is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of welded joints and components to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Review and interpret welding procedures, specifications, and blueprints.
  • Perform visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) such as ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, and dye penetrant inspections.
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate records of welding activities.
  • Identify and report defects; work with production to implement corrective actions.
  • Ensure welding equipment and materials meet quality requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to welders on quality standards and best practices.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers and other stakeholders to meet quality objectives.
  • Stay updated on industry standards, codes and regulations related to welding and fabrication.

Job description

We are a leading fabricator of structural steel and overhead cranes located south of Edmonton in the Nisku Industrial Park, Alberta. The Position -

An opportunity currently exists for a QC Welding Inspectors to join our dayshift and nightshift crew. We offer a competitive hourly rate plus overtime and benefits (after probationary period). The position is based in Nisku, Alberta and is a shop based position.

The Ideal Candidate -

The ideal candidate will possess the following experience and qualities:

  • Minimum level-1 certified welding inspector from the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) W59 endorsed– or willing to obtain W59 endorsement upon employment.
  • Minimum 5 years experience in the steel fabrication industry . 1 year in an inspection role.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting welding blueprints and specifications.
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes, materials, and NDT methods.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to safety and quality.
  • Journeyman Welding/Fitting certificate considered an asset
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Availability to work overtime hours
  • A diligent worker who can operate within a team or autonomously as required
  • The ability to work in a safety sensitive role at all times
