Job summary

Silent-Aire Limited Partnership, a Johnson Controls subsidiary, is seeking a Quality Control Welding Inspector for our Nisku location. You will inspect welded assemblies, piping, and frames to CSA W47.1/W59 and ASME B31.3 standards, coordinate with Production, Engineering, and third-party inspectors, and document all findings.

Role requires 1–3 years in quality control within fabrication, strong drawing interpretation, and proficiency with MS Office.

Qualifications

  • CSA 178.2 and endorsements of CSA W47.1 / W59, ASME B31.3 Level 1 Welding Inspector certification is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of W47.1 / W59 and ASME B31.3.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in quality control within a company with a quality program.
  • Hands-on fabrication and welding processes knowledge.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings.
  • Detail-oriented, multitasking, and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of welded assemblies, piping, and frames.
  • Inspect welds to CSA W47.1/ W59 and ASME B31.3, ensuring compliance.
  • Verify fit-up, dimensions, orientation, and overall assembly conformance.
  • Document deficiencies and generate inspection reports.
  • Review inspection docs and assemble unit packages.
  • Report safety concerns to supervisor.
  • Support training for inspectors and assist with NCRs.
  • Maintain inspection records, including photos and archives.
  • Ensure piping systems meet project specs and codes throughout the process.
  • Witness and maintain NDT activities (VT/MT/PT/UT/RT) per procedures.

Overview

The Quality Control Welding Inspector is responsible for inspecting welded assemblies, piping systems, and structural frames to ensure compliance with approved drawings, applicable codes, internal quality standards, and customer requirements. This role involves in-process and final inspections within a manufacturing and fabrication environment and requires close coordination with Production, Engineering, Quality, and third-party inspection agencies to ensure products are released with complete, accurate, and compliant documentation. The Inspector plays a critical role in identifying defects or production errors to prevent non-conforming materials from entering the supply chain.

Roles & Responsibilities
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of welded assemblies, piping systems, and structural frames in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and applicable codes.
  • Inspect carbon steel, aluminum, and stainless-steel welds to ensure compliance with CSA W47.1/ W59 ASME B31.3, and project-specific requirements.
  • Verify weld fit-up, joint configuration, weld quality, dimensional accuracy, orientation, and overall assembly compliance prior to progression or final release.
  • Document deficiencies and generate inspection reports using designated management software.
  • Review inspection documentation and compile comprehensive unit packages.
  • Report any observed safety concerns to the Safety Coach or Supervisor.
  • Support training and knowledge-sharing for inspectors.
  • Assist with engineering changes when drawings are incorrect; submit updates to the Quality Supervisor.
  • Identify, document, and report all non-conformances following the NCR procedure, including detailed descriptions and supporting evidence; assist with corrective actions as required.
  • Inspect all aspects of units from start to finish using appropriate forms, documenting and recording discrepancies.
  • Organize inspection documentation, including physical records and online photo archives.
  • Ensures piping systems meet project specifications, codes, and standards by inspecting materials, fit-up, welding, and testing, from receiving materials to final completion, involving extensive documentation, non-conformance management, and coordination with teams to maintain quality throughout process.
  • Review, witness, and maintain Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) activities and reports (VT, MT, PT, UT, and RT) to ensure compliance with approved procedures, applicable codes and project specifications prior to final inspection or release.
  • Performs all duties in accordance with Silent-Aire Limited Partnership safety program standards and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulations, and Code.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • CSA 178.2 and one or more endorsements of CSA W47.1 / W59, ASME B31.3 Level 1 Welding Inspector certification is required.
  • Strong working knowledge of W47.1 / W59, and ASME B31.3.
  • 1–3 years’ experience in quality control within an organization with an established quality program.
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience in fabrication, welding processes, and materials.
  • Familiar with quality control concepts, either through formal training or practical experience.
  • Ability to interpret and work from shop drawings.
  • Highly motivated team player, self-directed, detail-oriented, and capable of multitasking with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to manage change on the production floor and collaborate effectively with shift supervisors.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Working Conditions

  • Long periods of standing, walking, and inspection activities throughout the shift.
  • Mandatory use of required personal protective equipment.
  • Overtime may be available occasionally with work volume.
