Description
Position Overview and Requirements

Reporting to the Director of Public Safety and Enforcement, the successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining public safety and ensuring compliance with municipal bylaws and applicable provincial legislations. Appointed as a peace officer, the successful candidate will investigate complaints, conduct inspections, educate the public, enforce municipal regulations, provincial legislation and assist in maintaining community standards throughout the Township.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive, investigate and resolve complaints related to municipal bylaws and provincial legislations.
  • Conduct inspections of properties and public spaces.
  • Issue warnings, orders, permits, and penalty notices.
  • Interview complainants, witnesses and involved parties.
  • Prepare reports, case files and evidence for screenings and/or hearings.
  • Maintain accurate records and investigative documentation.
  • Conduct patrols and enforcement activities.
  • Provide animal services, pound operations and care of found animals.
  • Support municipal emergency operations and other public safety initiatives as required.
Skills, Abilities and Knowledge
  • High School Diploma.
  • Post-secondary education and/or experience in Law Enforcement or related field is considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge of municipal bylaws and provincial legislation.
  • Strong computer and report writing skills.
  • Valid Ontario class G Driver’s license and satisfactory drivers abstract.
  • Must be available to work flexible hours (evenings, weekends and during municipal and provincial emergencies or special events when required).
  • Be in good physical condition, must be able to wear duty belt and ballistic vest for duration of shift.
  • Handle and lift dogs, remain seated in a vehicle, or stand to direct traffic for extended periods.
  • Ability to obtain or maintain certification in use of force.
  • Strong Investigation, conflict resolution and interviewing skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform the physical duties associated with enforcement activities.
Language Requirements

Excellent proficiency in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in both French and English.

Compensation

The salary, based on a 35 hour work week, is set between $64,508 and $80,399 per year and includes an complete benefits package, a pension plan as well as free access to the Sports Dome Training Center. A detailed job description is available upon request.
