Summary

We’re seeking a Psychologist who’s passionate about person-centred, trauma-informed care to join our Road to Recovery team.

What is the Road to Recovery (R2R) Program?

The Road to Recovery program is an innovative and compassionate approach to supporting individuals with substance use challenges. Launched in 2023, R2R is designed to ensure clients receive the right care at the right time—meeting people where they are in their recovery journey.

At its core, R2R is grounded in evidence-based care that is person-centered, trauma-informed, and culturally safe. It recognizes that recovery is not linear and aims to provide seamless, continuous support—even through setbacks or relapses.

Current services include:

  • 20 transitional care beds for clients waiting to access treatment or long-term housing
  • The R2R Aftercare Team, launched in Fall 2024, which provides outreach and follow-up support in the community

This multi-phase initiative is expanding, with additional treatment and recovery services on the horizon.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a Psychologist with the Road to Recovery program, you will play a key role in delivering compassionate, client-centered care. Reporting to the Program Director, Urban Health and Substance Use, and working under the clinical direction of the Professional Practice Leader for Psychology, you will support individuals throughout their recovery journey.

In this role, you will:

  • Provide psychological assessment, individual therapy, and group therapy to clients and their families
  • Develop and manage the delivery of psychological services across the R2R program
  • Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team, contributing your clinical expertise to integrated care planning
  • Participate in program planning and evaluation, clinical team meetings, and client care rounds
  • Lead or contribute to research and quality improvement initiatives related to psychological care in the context of substance use

This is a meaningful opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking program that is reshaping how substance use treatment is delivered in our health care system.

What You Bring

Education, Training and Experience

  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from an accredited University plus one year of supervised internship.
  • One year’s recent related experience with supporting individuals with substance use challenges or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Current full registration as a Psychologist with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC (CHCPBC) or eligible to obtain registration within twelve (12) months of employment.

Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of therapeutic, diagnostic and consultation techniques.
  • Knowledge of psychology assessment and treatment methods and tools.
  • Knowledge of evidence based psychological practice.
  • Ability to function as a team member, leader and facilitator.
  • Ability to communicate with and deal effectively with co-workers, clients and their families, both one-on-one and in groups.
  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others.
  • Ability to teach and provide clinical supervision.
  • Ability to establish workload priorities in collaboration with others.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Ability to operate related equipment including personal computer and related word processing, digital medical chart software, telehealth and spreadsheet software.
