Job summary

Alberta Health Services seeks a Psychologist II to lead comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments in the Pediatric Rehabilitation Division, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and families to ensure family-centered care.

You will conduct assessments, synthesize findings, provide differential diagnoses and communicate results. Experience with WISC-V, WPPSI-IV, WIAT-III and related tools is required, with opportunities for mentorship and research involvement.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Psychology; CPA/APA eligible or equivalent.

Job description

Your Opportunity

The successful applicant will focus on neurodevelopmental assessment within our Pediatric Rehabilitation Division as part of multidisciplinary teams providing assessment, consultation, and collaborative care. The successful candidate will be expected to function as a Most Responsible Provider (MRP), leading comprehensive neurodevelopmental assessments for children with complex developmental, behavioural, learning, and medical presentations. Responsibilities include completing developmental histories, determining and coordinating required assessment components, integrating findings across disciplines, formulating differential diagnoses, and communicating diagnostic conclusions and recommendations to families and care providers. The psychologist will identify when additional allied health assessments are required to support diagnostic decision-making and collaborate closely with other allied health disciplines and physicians to ensure comprehensive, family-centered care. Experience with assessment tools, such as the WISC-V, WPPSI-IV, and WIAT-III is required. There may also be opportunities to contribute to program development, quality improvement initiatives, and research activities, depending on priorities and operational needs. The psychology department has more than 50 psychologists, neuropsychologists, psychometrists, and support staff. Description

As a Psychologist II, you will provide advanced clinical services (including psychological assessment, diagnosis and/or intervention), consultation and education to the interprofessional team and patients/families, and/or provides clinical leadership and coordination in an assigned program area. This is an advanced level psychology position that will allow you to work with or within teams to provide and inform services for patients with complex and multi-dimensional medical, psychological, interpersonal, environmental and/or instrumental needs. You will consult, collaborate, and enact initiatives to ensure that practices are evidence based and in alignment with psychology standards of practice and code of ethics, as well as policy, legislation and regulations. You will be expected to lead, facilitate and/or participate in program, policy, and procedure development, service planning, staff development, quality improvement and evaluation, and/or research activities as identified by the needs of the service area(s). You may provide supervision to doctoral level psychology residents, master's level interns, provisional psychologists, psychometrists and other team members.

Required Qualifications

Completion of doctoral degree in Psychology in an applied area relevant to the practice setting from a Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) or American Psychological Association (APA) program. A combination of equivalent education and experience may also be considered. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP). Applications from Provisional Psychologists may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications

Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Psychology from an accredited university program although a Master’s Degree with relevant experience will be considered. Registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists as a Registered Psychologist is preferred, however Provisional Psychologists are encouraged to apply. Supervision may be arranged for a qualified individual. Comfort and competency diagnosing neurodevelopmental conditions including intellectual developmental disorder, global developmental delay, specific learning disorders, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, anxiety, and mood disorders is a necessity. Additional experience with autism spectrum disorder, early development, and physical/medical conditions is preferred. Preference given to those with experience in assessing and diagnosing children across the age span with complex neurodevelopmental presentations. Experience in administration and interpretation of common assessment instruments is required (e.g., WPPSI-IV, WISC-V, WIAT-III). Responsible to maintain active registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) throughout the duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to work on a multidisciplinary team within a fast-paced outpatient setting is an asset. Strong clinical judgment and ability to manage sensitive conversations around developmental concerns and diagnosis. Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and clinical documentation standards. Experience with the ADOS-II and other neurodevelopmental assessment tools is an asset.
