Role and Facility Information

The Department Of Psychiatry South Island has an opportunity for a psychiatrist to provide temporary inpatient and community consultation on Salt Spring Island. Key components of this position include:

• Consultation for patients admitted to the 19-bed Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island.
• Outpatient treatment at Salt Spring Island Community Services, providing consultation to severe and chronically mentally ill patients, urgent short-term assessment and treatment, and drug and alcohol programs, working with case managers. Four sessions per month of sessional funding are available in addition to fee-for-service billing.
• Providing general psychiatry services to adults in the community, working with an interdisciplinary team.

The ideal candidate would be a qualified psychiatrist comfortable practicing in a small community with limited psychiatric infrastructure. Psychological mindedness, self-reflective capacity, and an understanding of boundaries are assets in a setting where one meets patients on the street daily.

Working in a small community offers a deep sense of belonging, active participation in a warm and supportive island community, and a great place to raise a family.

Option to provide on-call services; MOCAP available for on-call services.

This is a temporary position, ideally with the candidate working two-week periods. Dates are to be arranged by the applicant and the Salt Spring Island Recruitment Committee.

Compensation

Fee-for-service, with potential additional remuneration according to the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including a retention premium of 7.98%.
