Role and Facility Information

The Department of Psychiatry South Island has an opportunity for a Psychiatrist to provide inpatient and community consultation on Salt Spring Island. Key components of this position include:

1. The position includes consultation for patients admitted to the 19 bed Lady Minto Hospital on Salt Spring Island.
2. Outpatient treatment at Salt Spring Island Community Services, providing consultation to Severe and Chronically Mentally Ill, Urgent Short Term Assessment and Treatment, and Drug and Alcohol programs working with the case managers. Four sessions per month of sessional funding available in addition to fee for service billing.
3. Providing general Psychiatry services to adults in the community working with an inter-disciplinary team.

The ideal candidate would be a qualified psychiatrist with comfort practicing in a small community with less psychiatric infrastructure. Psychological mindedness, self-reflective capacity, and working understanding of boundaries are assets in a setting when one meets one’s patients on the street every day.

Working in a small community provides the opportunity for a deep sense of belonging, being an active part of a warm and supportive island, and living in a great place to raise a family.

Option to provide on-call services - MOCAP available for on-call services.

Start Date: As soon as possible

Additional Information: Flexible working schedule available with up to full-time work. Looking to hire either part-time or full-time Psychiatrists with available work for 2.0 FTE.

Compensation Type

Fee-for-Service Estimated Remuneration Fee-for-Service & Sessional billings & MOCAP. May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA) including: Retention Premium 7.98%, Retention Flat Fee $12,367, Relocation Funding Available up to $15,000, Recruitment Incentive $10,000, Other Benefits/Incentives Rural CME ($3,000 after 3 years; $6,000 after 4 years).
