As the main pediatrics clinical training site for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of British Columbia (UBC), BCCH is the leading acute care teaching facility in the province, and conducts research to advance health and knowledge through the BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute (BCCHRI), and collaborations with other institutions.

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology’s vision is to maintain an excellent, province-wide, diagnostic service, providing timely access for children with potential life threatening or disabling inflammatory / autoimmune rheumatic disease, and to provide our patients with the best possible ongoing inter-professional team care. Our ongoing mandate is to maintain quality and improve our level of patient care & patient outcomes; as such ‘best’ care is assured by providing clinical care in an academic environment with integrated research, teaching and patient engagement with particular consideration for equity and diversity.

The Division of Pediatric Rheumatology at BC Children’s Hospital (BCCH) is a well-established, internationally renowned center of excellence in clinical care, education, and research. Our team is dedicated to providing the highest standard of care while advancing the field through cutting-edge research and training the next generation of healthcare professionals.

Our multidisciplinary team includes seven experienced Pediatric Rheumatologists, Clinical Research Assistants, Dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialists, Occupational and Physiotherapists, and a Social Worker. This integrated team approach ensures holistic, patient-centered care while fostering a dynamic learning and research environment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified Pediatric Rheumatologist to join our team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute across multiple facets of pediatric rheumatology, including clinical care, research, and teaching.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will provide expert care in all Pediatric Rheumatology Ambulatory Clinics, including combined care clinics in Nephrology, Dermatology, and Neurology. The role also includes participation in outreach clinics in northern British Columbia, particularly in Prince George and Terrace, ensuring equitable access to specialized care. There is an on-call expectation and inpatient service coverage responsibilities, including ward and emergency department (ED) consultations. The candidate will also provide virtual clinical services to families and community healthcare providers, expanding access to specialized care across the province.

In addition to clinical duties, the Pediatric Rheumatologist will engage in leadership and participation in divisional research activities, developing a clinical research program that complements existing initiatives. There is an expectation to mentor and educate future healthcare professionals, reinforcing BCCH’s commitment to academic excellence. The ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team is essential to ensure comprehensive, patient-centered care.

Candidates must have subspecialty training in Pediatric Rheumatology, accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) or an equivalent recognized body. Eligibility for specialist licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia is required. The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to work in a collaborative and multidisciplinary team environment, with a passion for clinical excellence, education, and research. Strong leadership and communication skills, along with a commitment to advancing the field of Pediatric Rheumatology, are essential.

The anticipated start date for the position is ASAP. The closing date for this competition is May 2, 2025, and will continue until filled.
