Job summary

Lakeridge Health Oshawa and Ajax-Pickering are hiring a Nurse Practitioner for the Mental Health & Addictions program. You will join a Crisis Intervention Team within the Emergency Department, providing psychiatric assessment and autonomous management of care.

Based in the ED, you will diagnose, treat, and prescribe under legislated scope, collaborating with Psychiatry and community partners while maintaining a focus on health promotion, safety, and function.

Qualifications

• Current RN (EC) registration with the Ontario College of Nurses, with a Nurse Practitioner certificate in Acute Care or Primary Care.
• Masters of Nursing required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the Heart and Stroke Foundation is required.
• Member of RNAO and the Nurse Practitioner's Association of Ontario.
• Knowledge of the Mental Health Act of Ontario and experience upholding patient rights under the Act.
• 2+ years experience in Mental Health and Addictions care with prescribing.
• Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills for inter-professional teams.
• Commitment to client-centred and trauma-informed practices.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric assessment and consultation services in ED for youth and adults with mental health and substance use disorders.
• Autonomously diagnosing, ordering tests, and interpreting results within scope of practice.
• Prescribing pharmaceuticals and performing procedures as allowed.
• Collaborate with Psychiatry team and discharge decisions; liaise with community and hospital providers.
• Participate in team meetings, patient and family conferences, and professional development.
