Job summary

Government of Alberta seeks a Provincial Prosecutor to represent the public interest in Alberta Court of Justice, prosecute provincial offences, and uphold public safety. You will handle cases from review to disposition while guiding others and shaping prosecution practices across Alberta.

The role offers opportunities to mentor professionals, contribute to policy development, and work within ACPS and APTO to deliver fair, principled justice outcomes for Albertans.

Qualifications

• University graduation in criminology, law, public administration, or social sciences.
• 4 years of related experience with the justice system.
• Valid driver's license.
• Knowledge of Alberta Rules of Court and related statutes is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Attorney General in trials and court proceedings.
• Screen and assess cases to determine charge appropriateness and public interest.
• Prepare and present prosecution cases with evidence and witnesses.
• Develop prosecution strategies balancing legal and public interest considerations.
• Manage disclosure and negotiate resolutions with law enforcement and defence.
• Contribute to ongoing improvement of prosecution practices and policies.
