Job summary

PS Technologies Inc. seeks a Protection Engineer to deliver power system protection services across Alberta and Western Canada. You will develop models, analyze short circuits, and set relay settings while supporting project delivery under the Protection Supervisor. Mentoring junior engineers is also part of the role.

The ideal candidate holds a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, 5+ years of protection experience, and knowledge of ASPEN Oneliner, protection coordination, and HV apparatus.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
  • 5+ years protection engineering experience required.
  • Proficiency in ASPEN Oneliner; knowledge of protection coordination; HV equipment familiarity.

Responsibilities

  • Develop system protection models and short-circuit analysis.
  • Develop relay settings and perform area coordination studies.
  • Review standards and relay settings; mentor junior engineers.

Job description

PS Technology Inc. (PSTI) is a respected solution provider of planning studies, system protection engineering, and high voltage design of renewable and utility power facilities through 500 kV.PSTI has diligently and successfully served clients in Alberta and Western Canada for over two decades.PSTI operates as a fully owned company of Electrical Consultants, Inc. (ECI).A leading power engineering consultant firm, ECI provides engineering, system planning and studies, technical consultation, project management, surveying, environmental planning, commissioning/testing and construction services to electric utilities, energy developers and industrials throughout the U.S.Our experience includes system voltages from 4.16 kV through 765 kV.

PSTI has an immediate opening for a Protection Engineer.Responsibilities include but are not limited to providing power system protection services including system model development, short circuit analysis, relay settings development, area coordination studies, standards development, relay operation analysis, and technical reviews of drawings and relay settings; supporting project delivery from the protection team led by the Protection Supervisor; mentoring less experienced engineers via direct training and technical review of work.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering; 5+ years protection engineering experience.The successful candidate must be proficient in ASPEN Oneliner software, have in-depth knowledge of system protection coordination and philosophy, and have working knowledge of common power system high voltage apparatus and IBR (inverter-based resource).Proficiency in Siemens APA (formerly CAPE) or ETAP is considered an asset.The successful candidate must have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong organization and planning skills; ability to work in a team environment; commitment to quality and accuracy; and a willingness to meet fast-paced project schedules. P.Eng. license is required.US PE license may be required.The successful applicant must be knowledgeable of applicable codes, standards and design tools.The successful applicant may be subject to client-mandated drug and background checking.
