Job summary

FTAI Aviation LLC invites applications for a Propulsion Engineering Co-op Student in Montreal. You will work with experienced engineers on real projects, supporting engine overhaul, data organization, and ERP routing setup.

The role provides hands-on shop floor exposure to CFM56 engine disassembly/assembly, troubleshooting, and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, quality, and operations teams.

Qualifications

  • 3rd year or later of a Bachelor of Engineering program (Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials)
  • Completed at least one previous co-op or internship
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with hands-on mindset
  • Comfortable troubleshooting technical issues and writing technical reports

Responsibilities

  • Support propulsion engineers during engine overhaul by organizing data and developing tools
  • Assist with CFM56 engine disassembly and assembly troubleshooting
  • Help define routing in ERP system and support engineering documentation
  • Collaborate with test cell engineers to develop a test cell troubleshooting manual
  • Prepare technical documentation for customer-specific workscopes and ensure engineering standards compliance
  • Communicate technical findings with OEM and align WOS documentation with engineering specs
  • participate in annual review of ADs, SBs, and ESM updates across teams

Job description

JOB OVERVIEW
Responsibilities:

As a Propulsion Engineering Co-op Student, you'll work closely with experienced engineers and technicians and contribute to real engineering projects:

  • Support Propulsion Engineers throughout the engine overhaul process by organizing data, collecting technical information, and developing tools that improve engineering workflows.
  • Get hands-on shop floor experience during CFM56 engine disassembly and assembly, assisting with troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
  • Help define and set up routing in the ERP system, supporting configuration control and engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with Test Cell Engineers across multiple engine shops to develop a detailed test cell troubleshooting manual.
  • Participate in the implementation of customer-specific workscopes, including preparing technical documentation and ensuring compliance with engineering standards.
  • Communicate technical findings and discrepancies with the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM).
  • Support the alignment of Work Order (WOS) documentation with engineering specifications to ensure accuracy across maintenance activities.
  • Take part in the annual review of Airworthiness Directives (ADs), Service Bulletins (SBs), and Engine Shop Manual (ESM) updates, and help coordinate changes across engineering, quality, and operations teams.
  • Hands -on exposure to commercial jet engine maintenance and overhaul
  • Real-world experience in propulsion engineering, test cell operations, and configuration control
  • Opportunity to work with cross-functional teams (engineering, quality, operations)
  • Practical ERP and engineering documentation experience
  • Strong resume-building experience in the aviation industry
Qualifications:
  • Available for an 8-month co-op term beginning January 2027 (4-month applications will not be considered).
  • Currently in 3rd year or later of a Bachelor of Engineering program in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • Completed at least one previous co-op or internship.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on mindset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Access, and Word.
  • Programming skills are an asset.
  • Comfortable troubleshooting technical issues and writing technical reports.
  • Organized, proactive, and able to manage multiple tasks
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Fluent in both French and English.
