Role and team

The open position is for a Proposal Mechanical Engineer – Generator in the Proposals group. This group is responsible to prepare technical and commercial proposals generally in response to a client’s Request for Proposals. The Proposal Engineer is a key role within this team and has the overall responsibility to ensure that our generator technical proposal is complete. This is accomplished by working closely with other specialists on our team for some items and other items being done by the Proposal Engineer himself. The overall technical integration of our offer is the Proposal Engineer’s responsibility.

OFFICE LOCATION : POINTE-CLAIRE / CHAMBLY / BOUCHERVILLE

Responsibilities
  • Identify the challenges and technical requirements as per customer specifications and company design practices
  • Overall technical proposal inclusive of related supply, logistics, engineering and QA costs, and preparing supporting technical documentation
  • Establish the supply plan with the support of the Cost Estimator
  • Preliminary design of the layout and generator components to use for the proposal
  • Preparation of RFQ packages for various generator components and site services
  • Negotiation/clarification with key vendors/subcontractors together with the Cost Estimator
  • Provide key inputs to the development of a winning strategy for the technical offer, validate that it is the proper strategy as the proposal proceeds and ensure it is followed by the proposal team
  • Lead and challenge the assigned engineering resources that will perform the generator design for the proposal
  • Technical risk analysis has been completed and required actions/exceptions have been included within the proposal
  • Lead technical negotiations with the client in support of the proposal and ensure the final “as sold” documentation clearly represents what was agreed and is handed over to the project execution team
Qualifications
  • Fluency in French & English languages – mandatory
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of hydroelectric power plants (mainly generator)
  • Knowledge of technical aspects of hydro-mechanical projects; commercial knowledge is an asset
  • Strong design experience (hydroelectric generator design experience an asset)
  • Experience in assembling hydroelectric generator units an asset
  • Project Management skills – ability to handle multiple complex tasks daily
  • Effective communication skills (oral & written) in a multi-stakeholder environment
  • Proven leadership ability within a team context
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, sound judgment, initiative & creativity
