In this role, you will support various sales and business development tasks, from positioning to strategic proposals and qualification statements. All members of our Canada-Northeast Geographic Sales Operations (GSO) team are expected to be self-starters with excellent communication skills, creative problem-solvers, team players, and invested in Jacobs’ success.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

Each day presents different activities as you help position Jacobs for success. Our Proposal Editor / Writer will be responsible for writing and editing proposal sections, proofreading, copy editing, and managing small to medium-sized efforts when capacity allows. Responsibilities include:

Writer / Editor

  • Lead the writing, editing, and research for sections on complex pursuits or collaborate with capture teams on smaller proposals.
  • Serve as section lead for strategic proposals, ensuring quality and content accuracy.
  • Ensure compliance, identify and communicate issues proactively.
  • Participate in pursuit strategies, kick-off meetings, storyboarding, and milestone meetings as appropriate.
  • Partner with CAM, Account Strategist, or Sales Operations staff to drive proposals, qualification statements, and presentations.

Proposal Management

  • Lead coordination and preparation of proposals of all sizes, working directly with technical staff, and support large strategic opportunities under senior guidance.
  • Support planning and development of presentations and interviews.
  • Coordinate, write, edit, and research non-technical sections independently, ensuring compliance and issue mitigation.
  • Participate in meetings and opportunity planning activities.
  • Develop knowledge of Jacobs’ markets and suggest teaming partners and qualified staff during planning sessions.

General Responsibilities

  • Understand business objectives, priorities, and sales strategies related to proposals.
  • Apply Sales Operations procedures, policies, and branding guidelines.
  • Maintain and update business development tools and databases.
  • Build strong relationships across teams and may mentor junior staff.
  • Demonstrate skills in leadership, sales strategy, and industry knowledge.

Proposal Managers should demonstrate leadership, sales strategy, and industry acumen:

  • Provide direction to support staff and coordinate proposal activities.
  • Manage contributions and monitor progress.
  • Resolve issues independently and escalate as needed.
  • Lead business development assignments, manage proposals, and support strategic efforts.
  • Apply analytical skills to develop strategies and win themes.
  • Enhance company branding and ensure quality control.

Qualifications

  • BS / BA degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 8 years of proposal management experience, preferably in AEC industry, with expertise in transportation, water, architecture, interiors, planning, or urban design markets.
  • Understanding of proposal development, review processes, and time management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
