Job summary

The City of Barrie is seeking an Enforcement Inspector to conduct inspections of buildings to ensure compliance with maintainance by-laws, including multi-unit dwellings and boarding houses. You will investigate contraventions, enforce regulations, and may appear in court to present evidence and support actions.

Qualified candidates have post-secondary education in law/Enforcement, CPSO/OAPSO credentials, and at least three years of building inspection experience.

Qualifications

• Two years post-secondary education related to law administration, enforcement, building design or construction.
• Ontario Association of Property Standards Officers Part 1 Basic Level Course is required.
• Incumbent should complete Intermediate/Advanced Levels of OAPSO training before reaching salary rate.
• CPSO certification from OAPSO is required.
• At least three years’ experience inspecting buildings for regulatory compliance.
• Experience enforcing regulations including appearances in court.

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections of buildings to confirm compliance with property maintenance by-laws.
• Investigate alleged contraventions and enforce parking, property maintenance, licensing by-laws, etc.
• Appear in court to present evidence and support enforcement actions.
