Job summary

Municipality of Middlesex Centre is seeking a permanent, full-time Building Inspector in the Building Services department. The role involves inspections, enforcement of the Ontario Building Code and municipal by-laws, and interaction with property owners and contractors.

Qualifications include a college diploma in Architectural/Civil Engineering and Ontario Building Inspector credentials, with 5–7 years’ experience in construction or enforcement.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of progressive experience in building inspections or by-law enforcement.
• Knowledge of the Ontario Building Code and Building Code Act.
• Ability to interpret and enforce municipal by-laws and building codes.
• Experience in issuing notices, orders, and legal actions when necessary.

Responsibilities

• Conduct building inspections to ensure compliance with the Ontario Building Code and municipal by‑laws.
• Inspect construction components including foundations, plumbing, HVAC, and fire protection.
• Input and manage inspection data in municipal databases.
• Review permit applications and calculate permit fees for compliance.
• Respond to questions about code requirements and provide guidance to owners and contractors.
