Job summary

CAPREIT is seeking a Property Accountant to join our Toronto team. You will prepare and maintain accounting records including general ledger, costing and budgets, and analyze data to inform financial statements.

The role requires strong Excel skills, the ability to meet tight deadlines, and clear communication with Operations staff and auditors. CAPREIT supports CPA designation under a pre-approved program.

Qualifications

• College diploma or University degree in Accounting or Business.
• Pursuing CPA designation (CAPREIT is a Pre-approved Program).
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines, multi-task and prioritize.
• Excellent written and verbal communication.
• Financial statements experience is an asset.
• Strong working knowledge of MS Excel.

Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly financial statements and variance analysis in a timely manner.
• Prepare monthly journal entries with proper supporting documentation.
• Perform account reconciliations for assets and liabilities and reconcile sub-ledgers.
• Reconcile rent roll sub-ledger and tenant LMR cheques.
• Prepare the annual operating budget and analyses with variance explanations.
• Handle portfolio queries from Operations staff and auditors.
• Maintain monthly and year-end working papers with full documentation.
• Set up acquisitions and disposals in the accounting system.
• Support special accounting projects as assigned by the Accounting Manager.
