Position Overview

Giffen Consulting Ltd. (Giffen) is looking to add a Project Controller to join our growing project delivery team. We are looking for an individual with a mining and heavy industrial background to join us on a full-time basis in our Vancouver Office (min. 3 days per week in office). This is an intermediate-level position that offers lots of opportunities for career progression.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will be able to:

  1. Drive timely and accurate contractor cost and project accounting, and overall project reporting, including KPIs, budgets, and financial projections.
  2. Develop, review and manage project control plans, end-of-month accounting processes, cost estimates, forecasts, and schedules.
  3. Conduct variance analysis to identify risks and recommend corrective actions.
  4. Maintain standard and ad-hoc project reporting.
  5. Support Project Managers in managing scope, budget, schedule, and change management.
  6. Contribute to the preparation of proposals, including assisting in the development of the project controls effort required for the project budget.
  7. Provide support for Document Control activities.
  8. Prepare and implement Project Controls Plan for assigned projects.
  9. Review performance trends, prepare analysis and cost impact and monthly project performance reports, and recommend contractor invoices for approval.
  10. Oversee the production and maintenance of accurate project schedules. Expert understanding of schedule resource loading and levelling.
  11. Hold an expert understanding of schedule, critical path analysis, resource loading and levelling.

Qualifications + Experience

  1. Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance or related disciplines.
  2. 5+ years of progressive experience related to construction, project controls, procurement, and contract management in heavy industrial, or mining.
  3. Knowledge and experience in EPC, EPCM and PMC projects.
  4. Developing project execution plans, project control plans, and change management plans.
  5. Expert level of knowledge of engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, commissioning and startup work processes.
  6. Experience with ERP systems, SAP, and P6.
  7. General understanding of accounting functions and systems.
  8. Excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  9. Knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and codes of practice.
