Job description

About Solar Provider Group

Solar Provider Group (SPG) develops large-scale solar projects across North America and Europe. We identify suitable sites, secure land agreements, and manage permitting and regulatory approvals to bring projects to the point of construction. By working closely with landowners, communities, and industry partners, we ensure projects are well-positioned for success. With a deep understanding of market dynamics and regulatory frameworks in each region, our team navigates the complexities of solar development to create viable projects that support the expansion of renewable energy.

Why Consider a Role at SPG?

At SPG, you’ll join a motivated team with deep experience in renewable energy and project development. The role provides exposure to meaningful work that supports the energy transition, with opportunities to take ownership of projects across their full lifecycle. You’ll work across diverse regulatory environments and collaborate regularly with remote work opportunities and meaningful collaboration across locations.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Project Manager with at least five years of experience in solar PV development who can confidently lead projects from early-stage site evaluation through to construction readiness. You’ll be responsible for managing complex development portfolios, overseeing permitting, interconnection, and stakeholder engagement, and coordinating internal teams and external consultants. You have a strong grasp of the U.S. regulatory landscape, solid project management skills, and the ability to drive multiple projects forward—on time, on budget, and in compliance with all requirements.

This position is hybrid for candidates based in the Toronto area, with a mix of in-office and remote work. Our office is located in Liberty Village and provides a collaborative space for team interaction. Remote work arrangements may evolve over time based on company needs, with appropriate notice. Frequent travel across U.S. states to visit project sites and engage with local communities should be expected.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing project development activities across portfolios by coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders throughout the entire project development cycle, including land evaluation and acquisition, planning and permitting, interconnection, engineering, site surveying, environmental and regulatory compliance, power purchase agreements, and financial evaluation.
  • Achieving project development milestones on time and within budget to enable successful progression into construction readiness, transaction, and construction phases.
  • Identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies to minimize project delays and cost overruns; monitoring and managing risks throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Maintaining a thorough understanding of eligible project incentives, potential revenue streams, and program rules to ensure effective implementation and compliance.
  • Managing and reporting on project portfolio data, timelines, budgets, and deliverables using various tools; consistently maintaining and updating portfolio reports, budgets, and databases to support project- and portfolio-level analysis and development reporting.
  • Performing quantitative and qualitative analysis and financial modeling for evaluating solar PV project portfolios and advising on project financial feasibility.
  • Cultivating relationships with local governments, permitting authorities, regulatory agencies across the US and Canada (e.g., USEPA, USFWS, Conservation Authorities), utilities, and other stakeholders to secure required permits and approvals.
  • Managing consultants and project stakeholders to ensure timely and cost-effective completion of all deliverables; conducting site visits and coordinating field staff and consultants.
  • Reviewing and managing project contracts, including leases, interconnection agreements, power purchase agreements, consultant contracts, term sheets, and project buyer agreements, ensuring compliance with contractual terms.
  • Performing due diligence on solar projects by coordinating with internal functional teams (e.g., business development, legal, project finance, engineering) and external consultants and advisors.
  • Utilizing planning tools to effectively monitor and optimize project costs and timelines.
  • Maintaining detailed project documentation and records related to budgets, schedules, quality, and project management activities.
  • Developing sales presentations, proposals, and supporting materials to facilitate the transaction of construction-ready projects.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in solar or energy storage.
  • Hands-on experience in developing solar PV projects through the full project development cycle, including land evaluation and acquisition, planning and permitting, interconnection, engineering, site surveying, environmental and regulatory compliance, power purchase agreements, and financial evaluation.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as planning, geography, renewable energy, project management, or a related discipline. PMP designation is a bonus.
  • Understanding of the US regulatory landscape and permitting processes for solar projects is must. Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to environmental compliance, grid interconnection, zoning, and permitting requirements is necessary.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Strong project management skills, including planning, scheduling, budgeting, and resource management.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate multidisciplinary teams effectively.
  • Experience in managing teams, multiple projects simultaneously and overseeing the entire project lifecycle.
  • Excellent communication, leadership skills and ability to effectively collaborate with internal teams, clients, regulatory authorities, utility companies, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience in project acquisition and/or construction would be an asset.

Apply: Qualified applicants are invited to apply by May 31, 2025. We appreciate your interest in this opportunity, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted via email.
