Job summary

Pomerleau's Major Projects team in Montreal is seeking an experienced Construction Project Manager to oversee large-scale projects from planning through execution. You will manage schedules, budgets, procurement, and subcontracting while collaborating with clients, design teams, and field staff to drive safe, on-time delivery.

The ideal candidate has a civil engineering background, a PMP or equivalent certification, 10+ years in construction PM, and proven leadership.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, or a related field.
• PMP certification or an equivalent project management certification is considered an asset.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in construction project management, including major projects.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and structured approach to work.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
• Strong sense of accountability and ownership.
• Demonstrated initiative, sound judgment, and a proactive mindset.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, direct, and control the operations and production activities within your area of responsibility to ensure project deadlines, budgets, and objectives are met, in collaboration with other project sectors and departments.
• Organize and coordinate execution methods and all construction activities, whether self-performed or subcontracted, in compliance with contractual requirements and applicable regulations.
• Alert project management of issues related to design and engineering deliverables that fall outside your scope of responsibility. Proactively contribute recommendations and solutions regarding design and engineering activities.
• Develop and monitor project budgets, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions when necessary.
• Establish project schedules, detailed work plans, and/or critical paths, and ensure their daily monitoring and follow-up.
• Ensure all permits and authorizations required for project execution are obtained.
• Negotiate and award subcontract agreements.
• Manage project changes with stakeholders and pursue associated cost recovery and claims.
• Coordinate and participate in various project meetings.
• Manage interfaces and subcontractor coordination, with the authority to stop work when deemed necessary.
• Coordinate the procurement of critical materials, negotiate pricing, and prepare subcontract documentation in collaboration with the Construction Director.
• Identify and coordinate workforce requirements in terms of quantity and qualifications and approve or reject personnel proposed for project execution.
• Develop the prevention program required by the CNESST and ensure its implementation and compliance on site.

As part of Pomerleau’s Major Projects team, you will manage multiple activities and schedules to gain a clear understanding of client, team, and project needs. Working on large-scale construction projects ranging from $250 million to over $1 billion, you will play a critical role in stakeholder communications, resource planning, and the oversight of various administrative and operational activities.
