Job summary

Vertex Resource Group seeks a Project Manager – Liability Management to lead and advance environmental programs across NE British Columbia and Alberta. You will manage project execution, engage clients, and mentor junior staff in a dynamic upstream oil and gas portfolio.

You will develop work plans, budgets, and scopes for site assessments, remediation, and reclamation, driving quality and efficiency across all project phases.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in environmental science, biology, or related field.
  • Professional designation for sign-off in British Columbia (Alberta/Saskatchewan an asset).
  • 8+ years of environmental experience with Stage/Phase 1 and Stage/Phase 2 program execution, site remediation and complex contamination management, groundwater monitoring, and reclamation planning.
  • Strong project management: cost estimates, schedules, budgets, and client engagement.
  • Proven leadership in team growth and performance.
  • Deep upstream oil and gas experience; midstream/downstream is a bonus.
  • Strong regulatory knowledge for contaminates site reclamation in NE British Columbia; Alberta/Saskatchewan a bonus.
  • Effective communicator with excellent time management and organizational skills.

Position Description

We're seeking a passionate and driven Project Manager – Liability Management to oversee and advance key environmental programs predominantly in the upstream oil and gas industry across northeast British Columbia and Alberta. This is an exciting opportunity to manage complex projects, mentor growing talent, and work with industry leaders in oil and gas operations.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As Project Manager – Liability Management, you’ll manage project execution and client engagement, while supporting and mentoring intermediate and junior staff. Your leadership will drive environmental assessment, remediation, reclamation, compliance, and closure programs across a dynamic portfolio, focusing on northeast British Columbia projects.

You’ll play a pivotal role in:

  • Delivering cost-effective, high-impact liability management solutions
  • Developing work plans, budgets, and scopes for site assessments, remediation and reclamation projects
  • Driving quality, efficiency, and excellence in all stages of project execution
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Diploma or degree in environmental science, biology, or related field
  • Professional designation for sign-off in British Columbia (Alberta/Saskatchewan an asset)
  • 8+ years of environmental experience with:
    • Stage/Phase 1 and Stage/Phase 2 program execution
    • Site remediation and complex contamination management
    • Groundwater monitoring
    • Reclamation planning for wellsites, facilities, and other disturbances
    • Schedule B Site Reclamation Assessments, Reclamation Inspections and/or Detailed Site Assessments
    • Certificate of Restoration applications and/or Reclamation certificate applications
  • Strong project management: cost estimates, schedules, budgets, client engagement
  • Proven leadership in team growth and performance
  • Deep industry experience predominantly in upstream oil and gas (midstream and downstream a bonus)
  • Strong regulatory knowledge for managing contaminated sites and completing reclamation in northeast British Columbia (Alberta/Saskatchewan a bonus)
  • Effective communicator with excellent time management and organizational skills

LOCATION

This position will be based out of Vertex’s Sherwood Park office (161, 2055 Premier Way), Blackfoot office (4240 Blackfoot Trail SE) or Grande Prairie. A hybrid work schedule is available for this role. A hybrid role allows for flexibility with no mandated number of days required at the office location. However, Vertex encourages Project Managers to work towards office attendance with their teams 2-3 days per week.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • Salaried compensation is commensurate with education and experience and includes:
  • 11 stat holidays (applicable after 30 days of employment)
  • 6 personal days provided annually. These days reset every calendar ye These days are to be utilized in alignment with Vertex ‘s policy for personnel days
