Job summary

The University of Manitoba is seeking a continuing full-time Project Manager in Architectural & Engineering Services to lead capital projects and coordinate external consultants.

You will prepare RFPs/RFQs, manage schedules, budgets, and ensure Building Code compliance, with strong communication and CAD skills being essential.

This role offers a 38.75-hour work week (Mon-Fri) and a salary range of CAD 73,104 to 102,342 per year.

Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AutoCAD and developing plans, reports and presentations.
  • Knowledge of Building Code and construction standards is required.
  • Eligibility for professional designation in Architecture, Engineering or Interior Design is required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM FORMAL EDUCATION/TRAINING:

  • Eligibility for professional designation in Architecture, Engineering or Interior Design required.
  • Additional degrees or certifications in related disciplines, such as project management (PMP), LEED or other sustainability accreditations are considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of architecture and design in specific areas, such as building programs, preparation of budgets, concept design and functional planning is required.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of Building Code.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of 5 years of design and project management experience delivering capital projects is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Must have strong communication skills along with a proven ability to manage a significant number of projects at the same time.
  • It's required that they be familiar with AutoCAD and be skilled in the research, analysis and development of plans, and the preparation of technical reports and presentations.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
Key responsibilities

High-Level Responsibilities:

  • Gathers and analyzes data in the development of project initiatives, including space requirements, required functional relationships, typical cost parameters, etc. Carries out building planning/design and program analysis.
  • Responsible for preparing RFPs/RFQs and contracts for the engagement of external architectural and engineering consultants for the design work not internally produced. Acts as department liaison with these consultants and monitors their performance.
  • Communicates with Clients throughout the duration of the project, attaining approvals at milestone increments.
  • Prepares and presents written and oral reports at public forums in conjunction with the University Architect.
  • Maintains project information in an organized format to the standard of the University.

Project Responsibilities:

  • Manages the entire scope of the project; collaborates with the users to determine precise requirements, develops and maintains project schedules, provides project cost estimates, and engages external consultants.
  • Monitors project schedules and budgets, ensures that all related deliverables and outcomes are received.
  • Provides project management on functional space programming needs and feasibility studies to inform capital projects on campus.
  • Reviews design concepts and provides technical recommendations regarding the development and implementation of projects. Prime considerations are alignment with UM standards and strategic priorities, Building Code compliance, functional efficiency, barrier-free access, durability of materials, life cycle cost issues, sustainable design concepts and construct-ability of design details.
  • Follows the University's standard architectural drawing conventions and specifications, as well as the related architectural guidelines, to the leading industry standard.
  • Reviews and makes recommendations on the tendering of projects and recommending approval of tendered bids.
  • Prepares technical reports and materials for presentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
