Job summary

Seaspan in North Vancouver is seeking a Project Manager I to lead defined scopes within a larger program. You will develop schedules, coordinate resources, monitor progress, and ensure deliverables stay within budget and time constraints.

You will guide an Integrated Program Team, manage risks, communicate status to senior management, and ensure adherence to our QMS and contracting requirements on-site at 2 Pemberton Avenue.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering, Commerce, or Project Management or equivalent.
• Minimum 4 years in heavy industry with increasing responsibility.
• Experience leading projects, bids or proposals in fast-paced environments.

Job description

The Project Manager is responsible for managing defined scope within the Program in support of achieving the broader Program goals. This role develops project schedules, coordinates resources, and monitors progress to ensure deliverables are met on time and within budget. Project Manager I identifies and resolves project issues, maintains accurate project documentation, and regularly communicates status and risks to the Program Director or other senior management groups.

This role may have a small number of direct reports and is required to lead the Integrated Program Team on their assigned scope while influencing other stakeholders such as Functional Managers and external Customer specialists related to their assigned scope, as well as the broader PMO function.

While in their role they will be expected to apply Project Management best practices and be responsible for the application of Project Management best practices of their direct reports.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton Avenue, North Vancouver.What you’ll do

• Initiates, sets, and delivers Program goals for their assigned scope that realize Program goals.
• Provides project management expertise in the coordination and execution of assigned activities and deliverables.
• Directs the Integrated Program team in the delivery of the assigned scope against cost, schedule, quality, and safety goals.
• Supports in the generation of management/customer reporting, proposals, business cases, estimates, risk mitigation actions, plans and schedules.
• Controls and monitors the work - collating variance analysis and key performance metrics to measure project performance.
• Escalates project delivery, commercial risk, and financial issues to Program Director.
• Accountable for ensuring that all work is delivered in accordance with our QMS.
• Accountable for working level client relationship outcomes and contract requirements against assigned scope.
• Leads development of APMs on the Program team by providing mentorship and training.
• Delegates to and empowers APMs - enhances their subject matter expertise.

What you’ll bring

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering, Commerce, or Project Management or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum 4 years demonstrated experience in heavy industry such as shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction, with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience handling sophisticated projects, bids, or proposals with proven ability to meet or exceed commitments in a fast paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities.
• Demonstrated experience leading people and significant budgets in a matrix environment.
• Actively working toward or have acquired the PMP certification.
• Detailed understanding of Project and Program management techniques and methods.
• Proficient in planning and executing medium-to-large Program scopes (e.g., systems packages, outfitting programs, Test and Trials).
• Knowledge of integrated project planning tools (e.g., Primavera P6, Aras etc), Earned Value Management (EVM), resource planning/management, and performance metrics.
• Exceptional communication (written, presentation, spoken) and issue resolution skills across key stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to manage risk, change, and contribute to cost control activities.
• Extensive understanding of Program Lifecycle Management methodology, phases, production milestones, and classification authority deliverables.
• Familiarity with Government contracting and performance management of major subcontractors.

The estimated salary for this position is $105,300 - $128,700. In determining final salary, Seaspan considers many factors including the successful Candidate's skills and experience as well as position location and internal equity. The final base salary offer will be at the Company’s sole discretion and presented as part of a competitive total compensation package.
