Job summary

City of Hamilton is seeking a Project Manager - Community Engagement and Inclusion to lead strategic and operational efforts with an inclusion, diversity, equity and accessibility lens. You will build partnerships with residents, community organizations and institutions to foster meaningful engagement and advance equitable outcomes.

Qualifications

  • University Degree or College Diploma in social sciences, project management, public policy, human services, planning or a combination of equivalent education and related work experience.
  • Training through the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) is preferred.
  • Proven knowledge of project management approaches through direct work experience. Demonstrated success in leading project teams or as a key member of large or fast-paced project teams.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to work with various community organizations, partners, residents and other interested community parties as required.
  • Direct work experience with equity-deserving groups, priority populations, and racialized communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including ability to build and manage relationships with diverse community organizations and partners at all levels.
  • Ability to manage third-party vendors, track project progress, monitor deliverables and administer invoicing processes and payments.
  • Demonstrated experience in writing, coordination and preparation of Council reports, summary reports, briefing notes, and speaking notes.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills with experience delivering presentations and maintaining interpersonal communication through online platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Perform key project management functions such as planning, coordinating, implementing, and monitoring projects, including public and community engagement and outreach efforts.
  • Research, cultivate, promote, and maintain relationships with external partners to ensure meaningful engagement opportunities.
  • Attend, facilitate and/or lead internal meetings and community events as a representative of City of Hamilton’s Community Initiatives team.
  • Administer cross-departmental staff tables to ensure internal collaboration and consistent engagement outcomes.
  • Support staff to plan and implement awareness and inclusion activities in the Hamilton community; track program expenditures and budgets.
  • Provide staff liaison support for the Accessibility Committee for Persons with Disabilities.
  • Write staff reports, memos, briefing notes, meeting minutes; contribute policy content for staff reports.
  • Oversee engagement resource library and share best practices for inclusive engagement.
  • Work independently on multiple priorities with deadlines and minimal supervision.
