Job summary

Imperial Metal is seeking an experienced Project Manager in the Canadian construction sector. The role focuses on planning, scheduling, and executing projects while coordinating with internal departments to meet goals and timelines.

Regular updates with management will track progress and risks. The successful candidate will manage customer relations, budgets, and team performance, ensuring clear communication and timely delivery of milestones.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in construction project management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Excellent leadership skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with siteDocs, Tekla Powerfab, or Bluebeam is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as primary contact for customers after handoff from Sales.
  • Build trust and manage expectations.
  • Communicate schedules, changes and risks clearly and early.
  • Ensure customer expectations align with operational reality.
  • Own project schedule and milestones; coordinate with Drafting, Production, Field Ops.
  • Escalate budget overruns and manage cost controls.
  • Remove roadblocks and keep tasks on track.

In regular update meetings with the management, the project manager will update on relevant information, ensuring that the goals and timelines are met.

Responsibilities
  • Customer Relations
    • Acts as the primary point of contact for customers once the project is handed off from Sales
    • Build trust and manage expectations
    • Communicates confirmed schedules, changes, and risks clearly and early
    • Ensures customer expectations align with operational reality
    • Principle: no surprises for the customer
  • Project Planning & Schedule
    • Owns the project schedule and critical milestones
    • Coordinates with Drafting, Production, and Field Ops
    • Communicates delays as soon as they are known: proactive not reactive
    • Provides specific dates, not vague ranges
    • Deliver clarity in communication, not optimism
  • Budget & Cost Control
    • Owns day-to-day cost management within the approved budget
    • Tracks hours, materials, and equipment usage
    • Flags risks or overruns early with context
    • Prices, Tracks and organizes all changes and approvals
    • Drives invoicing and cost reviews
    • PM has authority over budget, if over it must be escalated
    • Ensure job costing is accurate
  • Project Management
    • Ensure all tasks are defined and on track
    • Remove roadblocks that affect timelines or cost
    • Handle customer-facing issues
    • Know your jobs
  • Lead, Manage & Hold Team Accountable
    • Lead coordinators and keep them happy
    • Remove problems and help them learn to solve issues themselves
    • Understand where they need training and ensure growth
Qualifications
  • Proven experience in construction project management
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Software
  • Prior knowledge of siteDocs, Tekla Powerfab, and Bluebeam are considered an asset
