Company Description
Shalom Manor & Gardens currently operate a long-term care and retirement home in Grimsby, Ontario and are expanding to Hamilton, Ontario. The Hamilton campus of care, located at Upper Wellington Street and Stone Church Road, will include 188 long-term care beds and 72 assisted living units. It has been under construction since December 2023, with an anticipated opening in Spring 2027.
Role Description
To assist with the timely completion of our campus, we are seeking a Project Manager. The Project Manager will be expected to work with the General Contractor and Prime Consultant teams, as well as our staff to create a project timeline, distribute resources and ensure timely completion.
Position Details
- Title: Project Manager
- Hours:3-5 days week
- Contract Length: Approximately 2 years
- Location: Required to split time between the construction site in Hamilton and Grimsby
- Reporting to: Director of Finance and Project Management
Key Responsibilities
- Create a work breakdown structure and project plan in MS Project in conjunction with the Project Director and various project team members.
- Maintain and update MS Project on a regular basis with a focus on the critical path and provide progress updates to the Shalom team and Board of Directors.
- Work with the Project Director in overseeing construction-related coordination, communication and deadlines.
- Coordinate and oversee the installation of owner-managed items (i.e. computer networks, nurse call system, furniture, appliances, etc.) and the general contractor, and ensure major components have been received, installed and tested on time by both the vendor and Shalom staff.
- Assist the Prime Consultant and Project Director with Requests for Information (RFIs), Submittal Instructions (SIs) and Change Order Requests (CORs).
- Maintain electronic files pertaining to the project.
- Attend Owner, Architect and Consultant (OAC) and Building Committee meetings and job meetings on site when requested, provide feedback and advice on project risks.
- Complete tasks assigned in MS Project and meeting minutes.
- Monitor cost control and communicate with the Project Director if items arise that may impact the project.
- Communicate effectively with all team members and corporate ownership.
Education and Experience
- A minimum of 2 years experience in construction as a Project Manager is mandatory. Experience in the construction of healthcare facilities a definite asset.
- Demonstrated understanding of construction methodologies and procedures.
- Experience with MS Project, Word and Excel.
- Formal project management training desired.
