Job summary

Fort McKay Group seeks a Project General Foreman for the Syncrude Aurora site, north of Fort McMurray. You will lead a large crew, drive safety, quality and productivity, and ensure client expectations are met with strong field supervision and risk management.

This safety-sensitive role requires pre-employment testing. 14 days on, 7 off; 13-hour shifts; camp accommodations are not provided. A High School diploma or GED and a valid driver’s license are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean 3-year abstract.
• 10+ years of mining operations supervisory/leadership experience.
• CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO certification required.
• Strong understanding of open pit mine operations.
• Proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Commitment to safety and compliance with company and regulatory standards.
• Ability to work under pressure, decisive and detail oriented.

Responsibilities

• Directly supervise a large crew to meet contract, client and FMGOC requirements.
• Ensure safety, quality, schedule and productivity performance.
• Conduct Safe Work Observations and Planned Work Inspections.
• Provide input into bid strategy alongside the Project Superintendent.
• Maintain client relations and attend client/company meetings.
• Support risk assessment, hazard analysis and job planning.
• Coordinate with shift safety personnel to meet HSE initiatives.
• Assist in incident/injury investigations and follow-up.
• Support career development of hourly employees.

Summary:

Under the direction of the Project Superintendent, the Project General Foreman is accountable for providing services to our clients that meet or exceed client expectations. The incumbent is to conduct all activities in a manner that supports the mission, vision and values of the Fort McKay Group of Companies LP.
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires completion of pre-employment/ pre- access testing.
Key Focus:

• Working with the Crew Team Leads, indirectly manage, support, inspire, and provide direction to a large group of employees to meet the requirements of the contract, the client and FMGOC.
• Accountable for safety, quality, schedule and productivity performance to ensure client compliance.
• Complete Safe Work Observation and Planned Work Inspection per set.
• Provide input and direction into bid strategy with the aid of the Project Superintendent.
• Develop, maintain and enhance relationships with clients in field representative and presence.
• Attend Client and Company Meetings to address any concerns.
• Perform Supervisory problem-solving duties relating to the assigned project.
• Provide consultation and assist in risk assessment, hazard analysis and job planning.
• Coordinate with shift safety personnel to ensure all HSE initiatives are being followed, met and exceeded.
• Assist in any incident or injury investigation and ensure it is dealt with in a timely manner.
• Monitor and assist senior management in the career development of the hourly employees.
• Strong interpersonal, communication (verbal/written) and supervisory skills
• Ability to minimize and resolve conflicts in a timely, diplomatic, respectful fashion.
• Perform any related and/or additional duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

• Completion of a High School Diploma, or a GED equivalent is required.
• Retention of a valid class five (5) driver’s license is required
• 3 year clean Drivers Abstract is required
• At least 10+ years of experience in Mining Operations in a supervisory/leadership role is required.
• CSTS and OSSA or BSO or CSO is required
• Practical understanding of and well-developed skills in open pit mine operations.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills, including good oral, written communication, and listening skills
• Must have strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
• Strong commitment to safety, including personal safety, safety of co-workers, and the protection of FMGOC and client’s property in accordance and compliance with company practices, industry standards, and government regulations.
• Must be decisive and work well under pressure; particularly when faced with an unexpected occurrence or delay.
• Focus oriented, with a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to speak, write and read English is required

This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB, on the Syncrude Aurora site. Work schedule is 14 days on, 7 days off; days and nights. 13 hour shift.
