Job summary

Job description

What is the Opportunity?

As part of Aecon Utilities, Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) is our in‑house engineering division, providing specialized design, project, and quality management expertise across the full utility lifecycle. The incumbent will support the Hamilton LRT project, under the Hamilton LRT Civil & Utilities Alliance led by Metrolinx.

What You’ll Do Here
  • Contribute to planning and execution of engineering and construction programs by defining project plans, key activities, milestones, and resource requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to design staff.
  • Review and assess design drawings from dry utilities, provide feedback, and approve finalized drawings for construction.
  • Provide status reports on project milestones and schedule adjustments.
  • Manage and control project expenditures to align with approved budget constraints.
  • Determine and plan project manpower requirements to support timely delivery.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers and technicians.
  • Support the Manager in attending and contributing to meetings for project reviews.
  • Coordinate preparation, review, and delivery of project deliverables including design documents and as‑built drawings.
  • Oversee and direct project personnel across specific phases or aspects of the project.
  • Review designs to ensure compliance with engineering principles, standards, contractual requirements, and specifications.
  • Coordinate technical development activities, scheduling, and resolution of design issues.
  • Evaluate and recommend design changes, specifications, and drawing releases.
  • Interface with clients to provide project updates, address concerns, and ensure alignment with requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver status and progress reports to clients, project teams, and management.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives by applying established policies and procedures.
  • Provide professional engineering review and sealing of design drawings and documents as required.
What You Bring To The Team
  • Post‑secondary education in Electrical or Civil Engineering.
  • Minimum of ten years of utility design and engineering experience.
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.) with PEO.
  • Experience with utility company employment or a consulting engineering firm.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Experience with utility projects and transit infrastructure projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) with strong document creation and data analysis skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Self‑motivated and able to learn new skills, assume new responsibilities, and work cooperatively in a team environment.
  • Excellent safety record and demonstrated strong safety awareness.
  • Familiarity with CSA standards.
  • Strong understanding of municipality standards.

Pay range: $85,000 - $115,000 per year. Individual pay is determined based on factors including work location, education, experience, and job conditions.
