Job summary

Mass. Electric Construction Co. (MEC) in the Greater Toronto Area seeks a Project Controls Manager to lead cost management, budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, and reporting across active electrical construction projects.

You will partner with operations leadership and field supervision to deliver projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and with transparent financial reporting. Proficiency in Primavera P6, Excel and Power BI is required, with a track record of self-perform project support.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction-related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience in project controls, project management, cost control, scheduling, or construction operations.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing project controls personnel or teams.
  • Experience supporting self-perform construction projects with significant craft labor components.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all project controls activities including cost management, forecasting, budgeting, scheduling, progress measurement, risk management, productivity analysis, and reporting across multiple electrical construction projects.
  • Develop and maintain project budgets, cost codes, work breakdown structures (WBS), earned value metrics, baseline schedules, and project control systems.
  • Prepare and manage monthly forecasts, cash flow projections, cost-to-complete analyses, and executive reporting to ensure accurate visibility into project performance.
  • Monitor labor productivity, equipment utilization, material expenditures, subcontractor performance, and overall project financial health, identifying trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, maintain, and analyze project schedules using Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or similar scheduling software, including critical path analysis and recovery planning.
  • Partner with project managers, superintendents, and operations leadership to evaluate project performance and implement corrective actions to maintain schedule, budget, and margin objectives.
  • Manage change orders, schedule impacts, risk registers, claims documentation, and contingency tracking to minimize project exposure and support successful project outcomes.
  • Create and maintain dashboards, KPIs, and performance reporting tools that provide timely, actionable data for project teams and executive leadership. Lead, mentor, and develop project controls personnel while driving standardization, continuous improvement, and best practices across the organization.
  • Support implementation and optimization of project controls technologies, reporting systems, and data analytics tools to enhance decision-making and operational efficiency.

Location: Toronto, ON, CA

Position Overview

The Project Controls Manager is responsible for leading all project controls functions across assigned electrical construction projects, including cost management, budgeting, forecasting, scheduling, progress measurement, risk management, productivity tracking, and reporting. This role serves as a strategic business partner to operations leadership, project managers, and field supervision teams to ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.

The ideal candidate has experience supporting self-perform electrical construction operations and understands the complexities of labor-intensive work involving transmission and distribution, substations, rail and transit systems, industrial facilities, renewable energy, data centers, or large commercial projects. The Project Controls Manager will establish project controls standards, provide financial transparency, and drive data-based decision-making throughout the project lifecycle.

Location

This position will be based on an active project in the Greater Toronto Area.

  • Proficiency with: P6 | Excel | Power BI or equivalent reporting platform | Cost Management and ERP Systems

Base Compensation:$143,000/yr -$150,000/yr
(Actual compensation is subject to variation due to such factors as education, experience, skillset, and/or location)
