Job summary

Graham, a leading North American general contractor, is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to support the Water & Wastewater Division in Calgary. You will help establish budgets, schedules, and reporting frameworks to drive project success from office to site.

You'll partner with operations teams to monitor performance, analyze data, manage change, and implement continuous improvements using Graham's controls standards and tools such as Excel, Primavera P6, and InEight.

Qualifications

  • 4–7 years of experience in project controls or a related field.
  • Experience on large industrial, infrastructure, civil, or water/wastewater projects is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6 or other scheduling tools is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Support project setup and execution with budgets, WBS, schedules and control systems.
  • Lead adoption of Graham's project controls standards and training.
  • Develop and maintain project controls platforms and reporting tools.
  • Monitor performance, analyze data, identify risks and opportunities, and assist mitigation.
  • Support change management and provide actionable insights for decisions.
  • Drive continuous improvement of controls processes and digital workflows.

Graham is actively recruiting for a Project Controls Specialist to support the Water & Wastewater Division. Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, this role partners with project teams to establish, maintain, and optimize project controls processes and systems throughout the project lifecycle.

The Project Controls Specialist acts as a trusted advisor to operations teams, supporting project startup, cost control, scheduling, progress measurement, change management, and reporting activities. This position plays a key role in ensuring project teams leverage standardized project controls processes, data, and technology to drive informed decision-making, improve project performance, and mitigate risk.

Your Role in Building What Matters – From Office to Site
  • Support Project Setup and Execution: Partner with project teams during project startup to establish budgets, work breakdown structures, schedules, reporting frameworks, and project controls systems that provide the foundation for successful project execution.
  • Lead Adoption of Project Controls Processes and Tools:Promote and support the consistent use of Graham's project controls standards, procedures, and systems. Provide coaching and guidance to project teams to improve project controls maturity and ensure adherence to established practices.
  • Develop and Maintain Project Controls Systems:Support the setup, administration, and ongoing maintenance of project controls platforms and reporting tools. Work closely with operations and project teams to ensure project data is accurate, timely, and aligned with business requirements.
  • Monitor Performance and Identify Risks:Analyze project performance metrics, trends, forecasts, schedules, and cost data to identify emerging risks, opportunities, and areas requiring management attention. Proactively upscale concerns and support mitigation planning.
  • Support Change Management and Decision-Making:Facilitate change management processes and provide meaningful reporting, analysis, and recommendations to project stakeholders. Deliver actionable insights that support confident operational and financial decision-making.
  • Drive Continuous Improvement:Identify opportunities to improve project controls processes, reporting capabilities, and system utilization. Participate in the implementation of new tools, enhancements, testing activities, and best practice initiatives across the division.
The Right Tools for the Job
  • Education: Diploma, technical training, or university degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience:4-7 years of experience in project controls, project management, construction, or a related discipline.Experience supporting large industrial, infrastructure, civil, or water/wastewater projects is considered an asset.Experience in multiple project controls disciplines including cost control, planning/scheduling, progress measurement, forecasting, or change management is preferred.
  • Technical & Functional Skills:Strong understanding of project controls principles and practices including cost control, forecasting, sheduling and planning, progress measurement, change management, project reporting.Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.Experience with Primavera P6 is considered an asset. Hands-on experience with InEight is highly desirable.Experience implementing or optimizing project controls systems and digital workflows is considered an asset.
