Job summary

Government of Alberta invites applications for a Project and Capability Analyst with the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service. The role supports strategic initiatives, research, and implementation while coordinating initiatives and delivering updates to governance bodies.

The position requires a university degree in business/public administration or related fields, plus four years of relevant experience (or equivalent).

Qualifications

  • University graduation in business, public administration, project management, organizational development, public safety, business analysis, or related field; four years of related experience or equivalent.
  • Equivalency: one year of education per year of experience, and vice versa.
  • Assets include experience in policing, public safety, government, emergency services, or similar environments; lean/process improvement exposure.

Role Responsibilities

Are you passionate about turning information into insight and helping bring complex initiatives to life? As a Project and Capability Analyst you will support organizational priorities, strategic initiatives, and operational projects that help build Alberta's newest police service the Alberta Sheriffs Police Service (ASPS). This role provides research, analysis, implementation support, and decision-making insights to support organizational growth and operational readiness.
Working in a fast-paced and evolving environment, you will collaborate with internal teams, operational units, external partners, and stakeholders to gather information, identify opportunities for improvement, support project implementation, and contribute to organizational effectiveness.

What You'll Do
  • Conduct research, analysis, and current-state assessments to identify opportunities, risks, and improvement areas.
  • Support the planning, coordination, and implementation of organizational and operational initiatives.
  • Track project milestones, deliverables, risks, dependencies, and implementation progress.
  • Prepare reports, briefing materials, presentations, and implementation updates to support decision-making and governance activities.
  • Work collaboratively with stakeholders to support organizational priorities, continuous improvement, and capability development.
What You'll Bring
  • Experience supporting projects, organizational initiatives, process improvement, analysis, or implementation activities.
  • Strong analytical, research, and organizational skills with the ability to synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Experience preparing reports, presentations, briefing materials, and decision-support products.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in ambiguous and evolving environments while managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience in public safety, government, policing, emergency services, or project-based environments would be considered an asset.
Key Responsibilities

Qualifications

A University graduation in business, public administration, project management, organizational development, public safety, business analysis, or a related field plus four (4) years of related experience; or equivalent.

  • Equivalency: Directly related experience considered on the basis of one (1) year of education for one (1) year of experience; or one (1) year of experience for one (1) year of education.
Assets:
  • Experience in policing, public safety, government, military, emergency services, or similarly structured operational environments.
  • Experience supporting organizational stand‑up, transformation, or implementation initiatives.
  • Experience with Lean practices, process improvement methodologies, or continuous improvement approaches.
  • Experience working with operational data, metrics, reporting, or performance tracking.
  • Experience with stakeholder engagement, facilitation, or workshop support.
  • Knowledge of project management or business analysis methodologies.

Please note there are two (2) permanent, full time, in-person position available.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., 36.25 hours per week.

  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver's License or equivalent.
