We are in an exciting period of growth and transformation. We have new leadership, a revitalized brand, and an elevated commitment to operational excellence and the Durwest Building Experience.

Position Overview

Temporary full-time maternity leave coverage until April 2028, with potential for extension or transition to a permanent role.

As a key member of Durwest’s Finance and Accounting Team, the Project Accountant plays a hands-on role in bringing our construction projects to life behind the scenes. This role is at the heart of our operations, owning the financial story of each project from setup through closeout. You will ensure project financials are accurate, timely, and compliant, while partnering closely with the Controller to deliver reliable reporting, meet regulatory requirements, and ensure revenue is billed and collected in line with contract terms.

Beyond day-to-day accounting, this is an opportunity to make a real mark. The Project Accountant will help identify smarter, more efficient ways of working by leveraging technology to improve accounting processes and systems as Durwest continues to grow. If you enjoy detail, collaboration, and improving how things are done, this role offers the chance to build something better.

Key Focus Areas
Project Billing & Revenue Management
  • Manage, prepare, and submit progress claims and client invoices for all active projects, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
  • Track and reconcile holdbacks and confirm all required documentation is in place prior to release
  • Prepare invoices for tools and equipment charges in accordance with contractual terms
  • Follow up on unpaid contract billings and support timely collection efforts
  • Identify and report opportunities for additional billings, as well as potential risks related to client payments
Project Setup, Contracts & Cost Control
  • Review and interpret project contracts and subcontract agreements to ensure accurate project setup and alignment with contractual terms
  • Review vendor contracts, monitor account totals, and identify variances, partnering with Project Managers to investigate and resolve discrepancies
  • Oversee job costing to ensure project costs are accurately tracked and reported
  • Close out project accounts upon completion, ensuring all costs are captured and final billings are processed
Financial Operations (AP, AR & Payments)
  • Oversee and support accounts payable and accounts receivable activities, ensuring timely processing and accurate financial records
  • Manage client collections and payment receipts and deposits
  • Communicate with clients and vendors regarding invoices and project financial matters as needed
Reporting, Reconciliation & Compliance
  • Prepare monthly reconciliations and financial reports, as well as ad-hoc reports, for the Controller’s review
  • Reconcile total project costs in Procore on a monthly basis to ensure alignment with financial records
  • Assist with the preparation and filing of regulatory remittances, including WorkSafeBC, EHT, GST, and PST, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and company policies
  • Communicate key financial insights and risks to leadership to support informed decision-making
Systems, Integration & Collaboration
  • Manage and maintain the integration between Procore and Acumatica to support accurate and reliable project data
  • Work closely with Project Managers to review budgets, change orders, and forecast projections, ensuring financial accuracy and alignment across teams
Payroll
  • Prepare the bi-weekly payroll, including reviewing timesheets, syncing employee data between HRIS and payroll software, and reviewing payroll before processing
  • Process off-cycle final pay for employment terminations, including calculating final wages, accrued vacation payout, and any severance or deductions, in compliance with statutory timelines
