Job summary

Quantum Management Services Ltd. in Ottawa, Ontario, is seeking a detail oriented Project Accountant to oversee financial administration of construction projects from budgeting through completion.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of accounting experience.
  • Intimate knowledge of Ontario's Prompt Payment requirements under the Construction Act.
  • Construction or project accounting experience is a strong asset.
  • CPA designation or progress toward a professional accounting designation is an asset.
  • Experience with Yardi or other construction and accounting software is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem solving abilities.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently in a fast paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain project budgets, forecasts, cost estimates, and financial projections
  • Monitor project spending across labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs
  • Maintain accurate job cost records and ensure expenses are properly allocated
  • Review actual results against budgets, investigate variances, and highlight potential financial concerns
  • Prepare progress invoices, client billings, and construction draw documentation
  • Review subcontractor and supplier invoices, including holdbacks, retainage, and release requirements
  • Support project related accounts payable and accounts receivable activities
  • Monitor project cash flow and contribute to ongoing cash flow forecasting
  • Prepare WIP reports, financial summaries, cost reports, and other management reporting
  • Assist with month end and year end activities, including accruals and account reconciliations
  • Maintain organized financial documentation to support audits, reviews, and contractual requirements
  • Work closely with project managers, site teams, procurement, and corporate finance to resolve issues and support informed decision making
  • Ensure project financial activities are completed accurately and within applicable payment and contractual deadlines
