Job summary

The Town of Caledon is seeking a Programmer, Specialty Programs to develop and deliver recreation programs focused on inclusion, accessibility, and partnerships. You will lead daily program operations, mentor staff, and ensure safe, engaging experiences for participants with diverse needs.

The ideal candidate holds a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation Studies with at least one year of progressive experience. Certification in HIGH FIVE and First Aid are assets.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation Studies or closely related field.
  • Minimum one year of progressive experience in a recreation setting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication; ability to lead within a functional area.
  • Valid G class driver's license with no more than 3 demerit points and daily access to a vehicle.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and travel to town sites as needed.
  • Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in planning and delivering recreation programs, including inclusion and camps.
  • Provide behaviour management and physical assistance to individuals with disabilities.
  • Support staff and help evaluate year‑round programs for participants with disabilities.
  • Analyze program requirements and present recommendations to supervision.
  • Collect and analyze data from client feedback and marketing efforts.
  • Liaise with schools, suppliers and the community; respond to inquiries and complaints.
  • Recruit, train and evaluate staff and volunteers; assist with special projects.

The Opportunity (Vacancy: Replacement)

Reporting to the Supervisor, Community Programs, the Programmer, Specialty Programs develops and delivers community programs focused on adapted recreation, inclusion supports, accessibility services, and partnership-based community programs serving residents with diverse needs.

The role leads daily program operations, supports and mentors frontline staff, and ensures safe, accessible, and engaging program experiences across assigned program areas. As the Programmer, Specialty Programs, you will perform the following duties, including but not limited to:

  • Collaborate in the planning, development and execution of a variety of recreation programs, services and initiatives, including inclusion, camps, and arenas.
  • Provide behaviour management and physical assistance to a wide variety of individuals with disabilities.
  • Cooperatively work with staff to develop, implement and evaluate year-round recreation programs to ensure the integration of participants with a disability.
  • Analyze and assess recreation program requirements and present recommendations to the Supervisor, Community Programs.
  • Collect and analyze data related to customer feedback and effectiveness of marketing and sales initiatives.
  • Liaise and represent the Town of Caledon while working with suppliers, schools, businesses and the general community.
  • Respond to emergencies, customer inquiries and complaints, and ensure a positive relationship between the public, outside agencies and internal staff at all times.
  • Recruit, train, and evaluate contract, volunteer, full-time and part-time staff.
  • Assist with additional duties and special projects as assigned.
The Ideal Candidate

We are seeking an enthusiastic professional with training and/or knowledge in the above, normally acquired from a post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation Studies, or closely related field.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum one (1) year of progressive experience in a recreation setting, including direct and indirect programming. Certification(s) in HIGH FIVE®, Standard First Aid, PHCD, Quest 1 Trainer are assets. This individual will have excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to obtain and exchange routine information along with demonstrated capability to act as a leader within a functional area.

The successful candidate for Programmer, Specialty Programs will be required to work a flexible schedule, including in the facility, and after hours (as required). The position requires active movement (inc. lifting, pulling, pushing); lifting up to 25lbs and occasional travel to various town sites and external meetings. Candidate must also hold a Valid G class driver's license with no more than 3 demerit points and have daily access to a vehicle.

This position offers a salary range of $71,570.14 to $89,462.67 plus a competitive benefit package.

Satisfactory passing of a vulnerable sector check, and proof of qualifications will be required of any successful candidate(s) for this position.
