Job summary

Squamish-Nation is seeking a Program & Event Worker to support Yúustway Health & Wellness with evening and community-based programs for Nation Members and families. You will coordinate setup, manage equipment, support facilitators, and foster positive participant experiences.

The role emphasizes safety, inclusivity, and engagement across multiple program locations, including on-site activities and off-site events. Strong communication and reliability are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in recreation or community programs preferred.
  • Good organizational and communication abilities.
  • Able to work independently during evening shifts.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with participants and families.
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence required.

Responsibilities

  • Check in program facilitators and instructors at shift start.
  • Maintain attendance records for programs and events.
  • Provide on-site support to instructors and respond to program needs.
  • Set up and take down equipment for activities and events.
  • Prepare spaces and maintain fitness rooms and event areas.
  • Ensure equipment is safe, organized, and in good working condition.
  • Promote a safe, inclusive environment at all program locations.

As part of the Squamish Nation's Yúustway Health & Wellness Team, the Program & Event Worker plays an important role in creating safe, welcoming, and engaging recreation programs and community events for Nation Members and their families. Supporting evening and community-based programming, this position helps ensure programs run smoothly by coordinating facility setup, maintaining equipment and program spaces, supporting facilitators, and fostering positive participant experiences.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working with people, supporting community wellness, and contributing to meaningful programs that strengthen connection, health, and belonging.

What You’ll Do

Check in program facilitators and instructors at the start of scheduled shifts.

Maintain accurate attendance records for recreation programs and community events.

Provide on-site support to instructors and respond to program needs as they arise.

Act as a welcoming and professional point of contact for participants and families.

Set up and take down equipment for recreation programs, activities, and events.

Prepare and maintain fitness rooms, program spaces, and event areas.

Ensure equipment is safe, organized, and in good working condition.

Clean and sanitize fitness equipment and program spaces according to established protocols.

Support programs and events at off-site locations by checking in facilitators and monitoring activities.

Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive environment for participants at all program locations.

What We’re Looking For

Experience working in recreation, community programs, customer service, or a related environment preferred.

Strong organizational and communication skills.

Ability to work independently and effectively during evening shifts.

Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with participants, families, and community members.

Demonstrated reliability, accountability, and professionalism.

Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence and access to reliable transportation.

Ability to lift and move equipment up to 40 lbs.

Knowledge and understanding of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw history, culture, customs, land, and people is considered an asset.
