Job summary

The Salvation Army Windsor Centre of Hope is seeking a Program Support Worker to provide compassionate, respectful services to clients in a faith-based community setting. You will assist with client case plans, track progress, and support daily activities in a structured program.

Responsibilities include crisis intervention, coordinating referrals, assisting with clerical tasks, safeguarding residents, and helping with medication management under policy.

Qualifications

  • Minimum secondary school diploma.
  • Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector screening, First Aid/CPR, WHMIS, and medical clearance are required.
  • Driver's license (G2/G) with valid driving record may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in development and implementation of client case plan.
  • Report to program Manager progress, changes and/or regression in the client's status.
  • Assist with crisis intervention and referrals to counselling, housing information and social services.
  • Perform clerical/data entry tasks and handle client service system entries and monthly statistics.
  • Greet visitors and manage front desk duties, accept mail and deliveries.
  • Support administrative tasks and ensure fire safety and public health standards.

Job Description

Position Purpose summary:
The Program Support Worker at The Salvation Army is responsible for providing professional, compassionate, and respectful services to the clients of The Salvation Army Windsor Centre of Hope. The incumbent will be charged with ensuring that clients are served in a manner befitting Christian standards, attitudes, principles, and goals, with care and concern for the spirit, body, and mind of the individual.


Accountabilities

Client/Service Delivery


  • Participate in development and implementation of client case plan

  • Report to program Manager progress, changes and / or regression in the client's status

  • Within the client's existing environment encourage, where applicable, positive life-style alternatives: socialization, grooming and hygiene, external social opportunities, respect for dignity of themselves and others, support client ownership of own actions and problem solving

  • Help clients develop problem solving and coping skills

  • Hand out and ordering of medications, record medication on e-MAR system or manual record sheet, as per policy

  • Monitor basic medical care and follow-up documents, help residents book their appointments

  • Identify unhealthy and inappropriate behaviors i.e. substance abuse, etc. and consult program Manager

  • Plan and implement a meaningful weekly program held at WCOH


Crisis Intervention


  • Provide referrals or general information to community members

  • Register new residents and properly complete all the documents as required

  • Refer clients to the appropriate persons for counseling, administration, housing information and social services assistance

  • Building safety check, identifying any safety and security needs, nighttime bed check, and ensure building's security and staff/residents safety

  • Clean and sanitize duties, working with residents and ensure their room clean

  • Assist dispensing PNA for client when required

  • In emergency situation use stairs to evacuate clients in the building to outside safe place

  • Available for other WCOH duties as needed


Clerical/Data Entry


  • Communicate with outside agencies as required

  • To perform computer data entries on the client service system, input monthly statistics, maintain accurate records of client stays

  • To prepare correspondence and reports to direct Manager

  • Answer the telephone professionally, direct calls and take messages as required

  • Greet all visitors to the WCOH, directing them to the appropriate area

  • Accept mail and deliveries

  • Accept, receipt, and place in safe any monies received at Front Desk Office


Administrative


  • To serve clients in a manner befitting Christian standards, attitudes, principles, and goals, with care and concern for the spirit, body, and mind of the individual

  • Ensure that fire safety and public health standard care is maintained

  • As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to the Manager


WORKING CONDITIONS


  • This is a unionized On-call (Casual) position.

  • Working environment is typically in the office and other areas in generally agreeable conditions.

  • The performance of the job requires the ability to lift/move 20 lbs., reach, bend, twist, stoop, and computer keyboarding, mapping and clean duties.

Education and Experience Qualifications


  • Minimum Secondary School Diploma

  • A University degree, college diploma or certificate from a recognized institution with studies in counseling or related experience is asset.

  • Criminal Records Check with vulnerable sector screening, First Aid/CPR certificate, WHIMS certificate, and medical clearance are required.

  • Valid G2 or G drive license is a must. Must provide the driver's abstract and meet Salvation Army Insurance Standards.

  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training is required.


Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements


  • Minimum of 2 years of prior related experience

  • Computer skills in all aspects of Microsoft Office and client date management system required
