Job summary

Resilient Hearts in Calgary is seeking a part-time program support worker to help deliver life skills training and support participants with developmental disabilities. The role emphasizes trauma-informed practices, safety, and compassionate engagement.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, or equivalent.
  • Experience in a support or life skills role with individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, proactive and compassionate.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed practices is an asset.
  • Eligible for Vulnerable Sector Check and valid driver's licence.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and support activities, programs, and community outings for participants with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and community organizations to identify needs and advocate.
  • Prepare summaries and develop service plans and individual support plans.
  • Ensure participants are engaged, supported, and safe during program hours.
  • Promote programs through community engagement and professional representation.
  • Address issues by following policies and working with program management.
  • Provide personal care and crisis support as required while maintaining dignity.
  • Complete documentation including progress notes and incident reports.
  • Perform other duties including housekeeping and administrative tasks.

Location: In-person at Resilient Hearts Main office (220-4014 Macleod Trail SE Calgary)

Position Type: Part-time (24-28 hours/week)

Schedule: Monday to Friday

Reports To: CEO (Chief Executive Officer)

Position Summary

Resilient Hearts is seeking part-time program support worker who will play a crucial role in the program's success by supporting high-quality and goal-based life skills training, supporting Resilient Hearts' mission, vision, and values. This frontline role involves supporting program operations, teaching life skills, and increasing engagement through fun and interactive activities tailored to the unique needs of program participants with developmental disabilities. The ideal candidate will be passionate about empowering people with disabilities, possess strong communication skills, and have experience in program support through trauma informed practices.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and support activities, programs, and community outings based on the needs, interests, abilities, and goals of individuals with disabilities, while aligning with organizational goals and best practices.
  • Collaborate with participants, families, caregivers, and community organizations to identify needs, develop appropriate support strategies, and advocate for participants.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly summaries, and develop and implement service plans and individual support plans.
  • Ensure participants are actively engaged, supported, and safe throughout program hours.
  • Promote Resilient Hearts programs and services through community engagement and outings, while representing the organization in a professional and respectful manner.
  • Identify and address issues or challenges that arise by following organizational policies and procedures and working collaboratively with program management.
  • Provide personal care and crisis support, as required, while maintaining dignity, safety, and respect for each participant.
  • Complete required documentation, including progress notes, incident reports, and other program-related records.
  • Perform other duties as required, including housekeeping, administrative, and program support tasks.
Skills and Qualification
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Disability Studies, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in a support role, life skills training, or working with individuals with disabilities, with the ability to work independently.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with strong written, verbal, communication, and presentation skills and a genuine passion for empowering individuals with disabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of developmental disabilities, inclusive language, person-centred practices, and available community supports and resources.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying needs, abilities, communication styles, and support requirements.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and other workplace technology; familiarity with assistive technology and devices is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid and crisis prevention training are required.
  • Mental Health First Aid, Trauma-Informed Care, Brain Story, and ASIST certifications are considered assets.
  • Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check and Intervention Record Check are required.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's licence, access to a reliable vehicle, and $2 million third-party liability insurance are required.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who identify as neurodivergent or have lived experience with disability.
