BGC Prince County in Wellington, Prince Edward Island, is seeking a casual youth program assistant to provide a safe, welcoming environment for children and youth to learn, grow and succeed.

This is a casual, as-needed position with hours scheduled based on programming needs and staff coverage. Shifts may be available Monday to Friday, 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with additional full-day shifts on PD days and no-school days.

  • Provide a safe, healthy environment for children to play, learn and grow.
  • Supervise a group of children and youth alongside co-workers.
  • Organize fun, safe activities addressing physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs.
  • Provide nutritious snacks to participants.
  • Maintain equipment and the facility in a clean, safe condition.
  • Be a positive role model and work independently or with a team.
  • Work a flexible schedule including weekdays, weeknights and weekends.
  • Perform light maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Handle other duties requested by the supervisor.

Job description

Summary of Position:

This position is responsible for providing children and youth in our community with a safe, welcoming and fun environment where they can learn, grow and succeed.

This is a casual, as-needed position, with hours scheduled based on programming needs and staff coverage. Shifts may be available Monday to Friday, primarily between 2:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Additional full-day shifts of up to 8 hours may be available on PD days, school breaks and other no-school days.

Hours will vary from week to week and are not guaranteed. Flexibility and availability to work on short notice are considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for children to play, learn and grow in.
  • Supervise a group of children and youth alongside co-workers.
  • Organize and implement fun and safe activities that will meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of the children and youth in the program.
  • Provide nutritious snacks to children and youth in the program.
  • Ensure equipment and the facility is clean, well maintained and safe at all times.
  • Be a positive guidance and a role model for our members.
  • Perform independently as well as part of a team environment.
  • Work a flex work schedule (weekdays, weeknights and weekends).
  • Perform light maintenance (sweeping, taking out the garbage, wiping down counters etc.)
  • Performing other related duties asked by the supervisor.
